Hello and welcome to today’s blog post, which is a fun and unique card created with the Animal Print Embossing Folder, Basic Border Dies, and the Ombre 12” x 12” Specialty Paper! This card first started with me wanting to use the Ombre Specialty Paper for a card and it really just took off from there! There was absolutely no rhyme or reason for any of the products I used, just a “I wonder what this would look like?”, lol. After I finally decided on the base layer, I could not really decide what stamp set to use and went looking through the 2021-2022 AC for inspiration, so when I saw the Dragonfly Garden stamp set and coordinating Dragonflies Punch I thought these would be perfect!
To make the base layer:
1. Cut a 4” x 5 ¼” piece of Crumb Cake cardstock, this will be used to adhere the strips to.
2. I cut a 1 ½” x 4” piece of the lightest Mango Melody, Poppy Parade, and Night of Navy sheets from the Ombre Specialty Paper. These would typically be those left-over pieces when you cut the 12” x 12” paper down to 4” x 5 ½” base layers.
3. I used the zig-zag die from the Basic Borders Dies to die-cut the long sides of each Ombre Specialty Paper strip, making sure that the sides of each fit together (like a zipper).
4. Cut two pieces of Very Vanilla cardstock at 1” x 4”, use the zig-zag die to die-cut one long side so that it will fit (like a zipper) with the top and bottom pieces of the Ombre Specialty Paper. I then used the Animal Print Embossing Folder on each piece of VV cardstock.
I used liquid glue to adhere each strip of cardstock/paper to the Crumb Cake cardstock base layer and used my snips to trim off any excess paper. Tip-I started with the bottom piece and worked my way up:
For the rest of the card front, you will need:
1. On a 2” x 7” piece of Window Sheet, stamp the dragonfly shown three times in Stazon ink, cut the same size adhesive sheet to place on the back of the Window Sheet, and use the coordinating Dragonflies Punch to punch out. TIP-the ink will still be a little wet, so I used the lower setting of my Heat Tool to lightly dry the ink. To clean the stamp, I used the Stazon Cleaner with a towel to wipe off the ink and then cleaned the stamp again with my Stampin’ Mist and Scrub.
2. Cut a ¾” strip of Crumb Cake cardstock, the left end is punch with the Banners Pick a Punch, the sentiment is heat set with Black Emboss Power, and I just snipped the right end for a 2 ½” sentiment piece.
3. Use the Very Vanilla twine from the Baker’s Twine Essentials Pack to fold a piece in half and tie into a (double) bow.
I first used dimensionals to adhere the sentiment piece to the base layer, removed the adhesive backing from the punched-out dragonflies to adhere as shown, and used a small dot of liquid glue to adhere the baker’s twine bow:
This completed piece is adhered to a Crumb Cake cardstock card base, cut at 4 ¼” x 11”, and scored at 5 ½”:
For the inside, cut a piece of Very Vanilla cardstock at 4” x 5 ¼”, stamp the sentiment and flowers stamp in Crumb Cake ink as shown:
Isn’t this a fun and unique way to use the Ombre Specialty Paper? This is also a great way to use up your scraps of cardstock or DSP! I could have stamped the dragonflies on VV cardstock, but I thought using Window Sheets would be best to let the beautiful Ombre Specialty Paper show thru!
