Hello and welcome to today’s blog post, which is a super cute and surprisingly easy shaker Christmas card featuring the Trees for Sale stamp set and Tree Lot Dies! I am not afraid to admit that shaker cards intimidate me because I just never had the best of luck with them. Maybe I’ve been doing it all wrong? Could be. The Effervescent Elements from the annual catalog really caught my eye, but I wasn’t sure how I would use them, but then here comes Christmas and I told myself that this would be the perfect time to use these elements in a Christmas card. As I am wrapping up my Christmas cards and had this container sitting out and giving me some major side eye because they have yet to be used, now is the time for a shaker card! I made six of these cards, which was surprisingly easy because I kept the die-cutting to a minimum and utilized the dies by stamping the trees on a piece of Shimmery White cardstock and die-cutting each size and the star die-cuts with one pass thru the cut & emboss machine. Making six cards also used up my last sheet of Wonderful Snowflakes, which were left over from last year! Trying to use up seasonal card supplies is a struggle for me, lol!
For the card front shaker frame, cut a piece of Soft Sea Foam cardstock at 4 ¼” x 5 ½” and use the second from the largest Stitched Rectangle Die to die-cut out of the middle. The base layer, or background, is this design from the Snowflake Specialty Vellum cut to 4” x 5 ¼”:
For the rest of the card front, you will need:
1. On Shimmery White cardstock, stamp each of the trees in Granny Apple Green ink and the second step stamp in Shaded Spruce ink, these are then die-cut out with the coordinating dies. Don’t have the dies? You can fussy cut these out.
2. Use enough Linen Thread to fold in half and tie into a double bow.
3. Use the triple star die to die-cut from Daffodil Delight cardstock.
4. Effervescent Elements.
5. One iridescent Wonderful Snowflake.
6. Cut a piece of Window Sheet at 4” x 5 ¼”.

To assemble the shaker card, I used Tear & Tape along the inside edge of frame’s backside to adhere the window sheet, adhere the die-cut stars to the die-cut tree tops, adhere the large and medium trees to the frame, place the Snowflake Vellum over the frame so that it is centered, randomly place the Iridescent Pearls on the vellum, and use the bottom of the frame as a guide to adhere the small die-cut tree, so that it is slightly off-set from the large tree, but aligned with the bottom of the frame. I placed the Foam Adhesive Strips along the inside edge of the frame, poured some Effervescent Elements in the middle (don’t forget to use your embossing buddy or a dryer sheet before to help eliminate static), remove the foam adhesive backing, and place the vellum base layer on top. This is adhered to the front of a Soft Sea Foam cardstock base layer, cut at 4 ¼” x 11”. I used a glue dot to adhere the Wonderful Snowflake to the Window Sheet and then rolled a glue dot to adhere the Linen Thread bow to the middle of the snowflake:
For the inside of the card, cut a piece of Basic White cardstock at 4” x 5 ¼”, stamp the sentiment in Poppy Parade ink and the medium tree in Granny Apple Green and Shaded Spruce inks:
For the coordinating Basic White Medium Envelope, stamp the medium tree in the corner with Granny Apple Green and Shaded Spruce inks:
What a super cute shaker card! Even though I made six of these cards, I still have about a ¼ of the Effervescent Elements left, so you don’t have to be sparing with them, what I used for this card is about what I used for all the cards. I will say this, this card is bulky due to the foam strips, so either hand them out or go to the Post Office and pay the extra postage to “hand cancel” them as I would not want them going through those machines. I still have one more Christmas card post to make and then it will be a fun and festive New Year’s card!
