Hello and welcome to today’s blog post, which is a cute and easy card featuring the Happy Thoughts stamp set and True Love Designer Series Paper! When you look at the True Love DSP, do you think, “How can I add color to this paper?” The answer is easy with the new Blending Brushes in the 2021 January-June Mini Catalog! Do you have these new brushes yet? Have you tried them yet? I absolutely love them! So, I decided to combine one of the designs from the True Love DSP and the Happy Thoughts stamp set to create six cards for any occasion! I used three of the 2019-2021 In Colors since they will be retiring before we know it!
The base layer is this design from the True Love DSP, cut into six 4” x 5 ¼” (vertical) and six ¾” x 4” pieces. I used a Blending Brush with Seaside Spray ink, Rococo Rose ink, and Purple Posy ink to color two of each cut piece of DSP. For the tutorial, I will use Seaside Spray, but will include pictures of each at the end:
For the card front, you will need:
1. On a piece of Basic White cardstock, I inked and stamped the sentiment from Happy Thoughts twice in Seaside Spray ink using my Stamparatus. This is then die-cut out using the fourth from the largest Stitched Nested Labels Dies. I used the third from the largest Stitched Nested Labels Dies to die-cut from Basic Black cardstock to layer under the sentiment piece.
2. I used the medium daisy stamp from Daisy Lane to stamp twice in Memento ink on Seaside Spray cardstock and punched out with the Medium Daisy Punch. For the center of one, I used a little bit of Shimmery Crystal Effects.
3. I used enough of the Seaside Spray Scalloped Linen Ribbon to go across the DSP base layer, tying a knot at one end.
Adhere the ribbon along the bottom of the DSP base layer as shown (ends are adhered to the backside), the layered sentiment is adhered in the middle of the DSP base layer, and I used liquid glue to adhere the punched daisy layers together and adhering to the DSP base layer as shown:
This completed piece is adhered to a Seaside Spray cardstock card base, cut at 4 ¼” x 11”, and scored at 5 ½”:
For the inside, cut a piece of Basic White cardstock at 4” x 5 ¼” (vertical), stamp the sentiment in Seaside Spray ink, and adhere the ¾” x 4” strip of DSP along the bottom as shown:
An alternative to the ribbon, is using the Gold Metallic Edge Ribbon and using a Dark Basic Black Stampin’ Blends to color:
Here is another example using Highland Heather ink (stamping off once first on scratch paper) and Purple Posy cardstock, I also used the Dark Purple Posy Stampin’ Blends to color the Gold Metallic Edge Ribbon, and changed the inside sentiment:
The last example is using Rococo Rose ink and cardstock, using the Basic Black Satin Ribbon (retired), and changed the inside sentiment:
This is a fun way to get “acquainted” with your Blending Brushes and give those 2019-2021 In Colors some “love” before they retire! Now, the downside to Shimmery Crystal Effects is that it take a while to dry, so what you can do is just put the daisies off to the side to dry and then just assemble them together and adhere to the card!
