Hello and welcome to today’s blog post, which is a sweet and simple slimline Valentine’s card featuring four different embossing folders! While slimline cards are a fun and different type of fold card, there were not dies or envelopes that could accommodate them, until now! Stampin’ Up! introduced the Slim Sayings Bundle and coordinating Slimline Envelopes in the new January – June 2022 Mini Catalog, page 52-53, and I am super excited about the dies and envelopes! In the past, I’ve either made my own envelopes or just used the ones that you can buy at the store, but now we have these super cute ones. I also thought I would experiment with the splatter embossing folder from the Stripes & Splatters 3D Embossing Folders to see if I could give the “illusion” of a longer embossing folder since the cardstock is 8 ¼” long and the embossing folder is only 6 ¼”!
The base layer for the card front is Magenta Madness cardstock, cut at 3 ½’ x 8 ½”, and the next layer is Basic White cardstock, cut at 3 ¼” x 8 ¼”, embossed with the splatter folder from the Stripes & Splatters 3D EF. How I embossed the cardstock without making that “dreaded line” from the end of the folder: first spritz the cardstock with water, place the cardstock in the folder, place the folder on the bottom platform with about an inch of the end of the folder sticking out off the end of the platform, and then run through the emboss & cut machine like normal. Now you will place the edge of the cardstock that was not embossed in the embossing folder, lining up the edge between the embossed and not embossed about an inch from the end of the folder, and place the folder end sticking out to emboss the same way. With the end of the embossing folder sticking out off the end of the bottom platform, you will not completely emboss to the end of the folder, where the line is:
To create the ink splatter on the cardstock, I used the medium tip Waterpainter, a small dish of tap water, a clear block, and the Blushing Bride, Polished Pink, and Magenta Madness ink refill. I squeezed a small drop of ink from the refill on the clear block, dipped the brush in the water, mixed the water with the ink on the block, and then tapped the Waterpainter across the embossed cardstock, repeating this process with each ink refill. I used a container with water rather than squeezing the water in the Waterpainter because this was just quicker and easier for me and made cleaning the brush after each color easier:
For the rest of the card front, you will need:
1. Use the scalloped heart punch to punch out of Magenta Madness cardstock and emboss with the Timeworn Type 3D EF.
2. Use the scalloped heart punch to punch out of Polished Pink cardstock and emboss with the Tasteful Textile 3D EF.
3. Use the scalloped heart punch to punch out of Blushing Bride cardstock, emboss with the Animal Print EF, and use a Wink of Stella pen on the raised embossed parts.
4. Use an 11” piece of the Polished Pink Open Weave Ribbon.
5. You will need two small and one large Brushed Brass Butterflies.
You will first adhere the ribbon across the middle of the embossed cardstock, adhere the Magenta Madness and Polished Pink hearts in the middle of the cardstock and over the ribbon, use dimensionals to adhere the Blushing Bride heart, adhere this piece on top of the Magenta Madness cardstock base layer, and then place the brass butterflies as shown. This competed piece is adhered to a Basic White cardstock card base, cut at 7 ½” x 8 ¾”, and scored at 3 ¾”:
For the inside, cut a piece of Magenta Madness cardstock at 3 ½” x 8 ½” and a piece of Basic White cardstock at 3 ¼” x 8 ¼” to layer. I used a sentiment from Forever Lovely (R) in Polished Pink ink and the little heart stamp from Heartfelt (R) in Blushing Bride ink in each corner:
I used the white envelope from the Slimline Envelopes and used the same small heart stamp to stamp the two bottom corners in Magenta Madness, Polished Pink, and Blushing Bride inks:
While this may seem like a lot of steps, it is really easy to make! I just love all the different textures that the different embossing folders give this card, the easy of using punches, and very little stamping! This design is great for CASEing for wedding, anniversaries, and/or sending sweet sentiments, even for traditional A2 size cards!
