Hello and welcome to today’s card, which is a super fun and easy Z Fold Pop-Up Card! I made this a birthday card for dearest sister-friend, who loves Lilypad Lake stamp set! I’ve posted on Facebook a couple of other cards that I made, so I figured why not show you how easy it is to make, which you can do out of ONE piece of cardstock!
The card base is Balmy Blue cardstock, cut at 4 ¼” x 11”, and scored at 2 ¾” and at 5 ½”:
The front fold is Balmy Blue cardstock, cut at 2 1/8” x 11”, and scored at 2 ¾” and at 5 ½”:
The inner strip to create the “pop-up” part is Balmy Blue cardstock, cut at 2 1/8” x 11” and scored at 7/8”, 3 5/8”, 4 1/8”, 6 7/8”, 7 3/8”. You will then fold into a “Z” and use strong adhesive on the “mountain” of the folds (I used Tear & Tape):
The panels for the card base are Whisper White cardstock, cut at 4” x 5 ¼” and 2 pieces cut at 2 ½” x 4”:
For all the card base panels I wanted to make them look like the sky, so for the two smaller panels, I placed them next to each other and created a mask for clouds using the cloud dies from the Up & Away Thinlit Dies and sponged Balmy Blue ink onto the cardstock:
For the bigger panel, I first used a sponge dauber with Pineapple Punch ink in the upper left corner and then used the sun stamp from Lilypad Lake in Crushed Curry, stamping several times for the effect. I then used the same cloud masks with a Stampin’ Sponge and Balmy Blue ink for the rest of the sky:
Since I knew I was making the bird from Lilypad Lake stamp set into a Heron, I wanted to make it look like he was “walking on a dock” for the front fold piece, so I used a piece of Wood Textures 6” x 6” DSP cut at 2” x 5 ¼”, embossed it with the Pinewood Planks Dynamic TIEF, and then sponged Early Espresso ink to give the embossing a darker definition:
For the smaller two front fold panels, I cut two pieces of Whisper White cardstock at 2” x 2 ½”, sponged Balmy Blue ink, and then used the wave stamp in Balmy Blue and Blueberry Bushel inks. I also stamped the wave stamp in Blueberry Bushel ink on the front panel of the inner strip:
I stamped the Heron in Memento Ink and then colored with Light and Dark Smoky Slate Stampin’ Blends. I stamped the sailboats 5 times in Memento Ink and then colored them in with Light and Dark Pineapple Punch, Light and Dark Call Me Clover, Light and Dark Poppy Parade, Light and Dark Highland Heather, Light and Dark Lovely Lipstick, Ivory, Bronze, Light Granny Apple Green, Light Bermuda Bay, Light Night of Navy, Dark Pool Party, Dark Petal Pink, Dark Flirty Flamingo, and Dark Mango Melody Stampin’ Blends Markers:
Attach the panels to the card base and to the front fold base:
I used Tear & Tape on the ends of the front fold and then attached to the card base:
Next place the inner strip in the “box”. The easiest way I have found to make sure this piece is correct and the card folds over, is to adhere the end pieces first, and then fold the card closed and the two inner pieces will adhere correctly:
The final step is to adhere the Heron and all the sailboats! For the inner strip, I used glue dots at the bottom of the boat and then for the front fold panels I popped the smaller ones and the Heron up with Mini Dimensionals. I also used Wink of Stella on all 3 of the front fold panels:
After I put this all together, I felt like it needed a little bit more. So, I used the birds from the High Tide stamp set and heat embossed the sentiment from the Rooted in Nature stamp set in Copper Embossing Powder on Whisper White cardstock. This was then cut out with the smallest circle from the Stitched Labels Framelits and I also used the heart framelit from this set to cut out from Copper Foil Sheets:
I just love how this turned out! Now I will admit these are not my instructions, I got them from Splitcoast Stampers! Having great instructions make it so easy to make and share creative ideas!!
