Just add color!

Hello and welcome to my first blog post of 2019! I hope you all had a safe and joyous holiday season! Now that the 2019 Occasions and Sale-A-Bration catalogs has gone live, I thought I would show you not one, but two cards using the Botanical Butterfly Designer Series Paper, which you can earn for FREE with a qualifying $50 (USD) purchase! This beautiful DSP not only has lots of color, but black and white as well! Two of the designs are of butterflies in black and white and I chose one of the designs to spotlight the butterflies using Stampin’ Blends. If you have thought about purchasing Stampin’ Blends or maybe have already started purchasing a few of the Stampin’ Blends, this is a perfect opportunity to use them and just add color!

To start, I used this butterfly and flower black and white design and at 3 ¾” x 12” and then cut that piece down at 5”, giving me two pieces of DSP measuring 3 ¾” x 5”. For the DSP on the right, I chose Dark Pineapple Punch, Light Mango Melody, and Light Pumpkin Pie Stampin’ Blends. For the DSP on the left, I chose Dark Petal Pink, Light Flirty Flamingo (I started with Dark Flirty Flamingo on one of the butterflies, decided it was too dark, and then switched to Light Flirty Flamingo), and Dark Lovely Lipstick Stampin’ Blends:

fullsizeoutput_3052

Cut two pieces of Basic Black cardstock at 4” x 5 ¼” to layer the DSP on:

fullsizeoutput_3055

For the card on the right, I used Mango Melody cardstock for the card base and Flirty Flamingo cardstock for the card base for the card on the left, both cut at 4 ¼” x 11”, and scored at 5 ½”:

fullsizeoutput_305bfullsizeoutput_3058

The card front sentiment is from Rooted in Nature, stamped on Whisper White cardstock in Pumpkin Pie and Lovely Lipstick inks, and then punch out the sentiment with the 1 1/8” Scallop Circle Punch. I used the 1 3/8” Scallop Circle Punch to punch out a piece in Pumpkin Pie and Lovely Lipstick cardstock to layer the sentiment on. You will cut a piece of the Silver Metallic-Edge Ribbon long enough to wrap around the DSP and Basic Black base layer:

fullsizeoutput_305e

The DSP is adhered to the Basic Black base layer and then the ribbon is adhered across the bottom. TIP-this ribbon is wide enough that you can use some Snail on the back to help keep it in place on the card front. The sentiment is then adhered to the layering cardstock, then adhered with a dimensional, and finally is adhered to the card base:

fullsizeoutput_3061fullsizeoutput_3064

For the inside sentiment on a piece of 4” x 5 ¼” Whisper White cardstock, the sentiment is also from Rooted in Nature stamp set, in Mango Melody and Flirty Flamingo ink. The butterflies are from Butterfly Gala stamp set in Memento Ink and are colored in with the same Stampin’ Blends colors as the front of the card:

fullsizeoutput_3067

So, what do you think?? Isn’t this fun paper that you can earn for free?? This is a great way to create 6 cards just like this from one sheet of Designer Series Paper! Then, you will have 3 pieces of the DSP measuring 2” x 3 ¾” to create up to 3 more cards from!!

Basket of leaves

Hello and welcome to today’s card, which was created by starting with the idea of creating a “basket” with cardstock and the Basket Weave Dynamic TIEF. Then when you add embossed leaves, sponging, and some copper you get a fun fall themed card! If you like to emboss with your dies, but haven’t yet purchased the Big Shot Embossing Mats, I highly recommend you add them to your next purchase! One of the fun elements these embossing mats add is a raised texture to your embossed image. It’s kind of like turning your embossing dies into an embossing folder!

To create this card, the card base is Cajun Craze cardstock, cut at 5 ½” x 8 ½”, and scored at 4 ¼”:

fullsizeoutput_29e6

The base layer is Crumb Cake cardstock, cut at 4” x 5 ¼”, and embossed with the Pinewood Planks Dynamic TIEF. Before I embossed the cardstock, I first took my Early Espresso stamp pad and inked up the embossing folder, which gives your embossed image some depth with the color:

fullsizeoutput_29e9

To create the basket, I used a 2 ½” x 2 ½” piece of Crumb Cake cardstock, used the corner rounder punch from the Detailed Trio punch on two of the corners, embossed with the Basket Weave folder and then sponged on some Crumb Cake ink. For the handles, I used a piece of Crumb Cake cardstock and the largest and third largest ovals from the Layering Ovals Framelits, used sticky notes to keep them in place, embossed the cutout piece with the Basket Weave folder, sponged some Crumb Cake ink, and then adhered to the basket bottom with glue dots. For the accents, I adhered two of the larger copper sequins from the Metallic Sequin Assortment with the Fine Tip Glue Pen, and tied a piece of Copper Trim around the middle into a bow:

To create the leaves, I used the Nature’s Roots Framelits Dies with Crumb Cake, Mango Melody, and Cajun Craze cardstock. These are first cut out, embossed, and then sponged with ink. The smaller leaves are heat embossed with Copper Embossing Powder on Vellum Cardstock and then cut out with the coordinating die:

fullsizeoutput_29ec

I arranged and adhered the three large and two of the copper leaves “inside” the basket with glue dots, adhered the small leaf with a glue dot to make it look like it was falling out of the basket:

fullsizeoutput_29f2fullsizeoutput_29f5fullsizeoutput_29f8

The base layer is adhered to the card base and then the basket is adhered with dimensionals. The last two leaves are adhered together with a glue dot and then adhered to the base layer with a dimensional:

The inside of the card is a piece of 4” x 5 ¼” Whisper White cardstock and I stamped the leaves down the side and bottom in Mango Melody, Cajun Craze, and Crumb Cake inks:

fullsizeoutput_2a01

Another fun fall themed card! Have you ever had an idea that you wanted to create with and just ran with it? Sure, I have some retired products that I could use to create a basket, but I wanted to show that you can be creative with the supplies you have with little fuss!

Lilypad Lake Z Fold Pop-Up Card

Hello and welcome to today’s card, which is a super fun and easy Z Fold Pop-Up Card! I made this a birthday card for dearest sister-friend, who loves Lilypad Lake stamp set! I’ve posted on Facebook a couple of other cards that I made, so I figured why not show you how easy it is to make, which you can do out of ONE piece of cardstock!

The card base is Balmy Blue cardstock, cut at 4 ¼” x 11”, and scored at 2 ¾” and at 5 ½”:

fullsizeoutput_26cb

The front fold is Balmy Blue cardstock, cut at 2 1/8” x 11”, and scored at 2 ¾” and at 5 ½”:

fullsizeoutput_26ce

The inner strip to create the “pop-up” part is Balmy Blue cardstock, cut at 2 1/8” x 11” and scored at 7/8”, 3 5/8”, 4 1/8”, 6 7/8”, 7 3/8”. You will then fold into a “Z” and use strong adhesive on the “mountain” of the folds (I used Tear & Tape):

The panels for the card base are Whisper White cardstock, cut at 4” x 5 ¼” and 2 pieces cut at 2 ½” x 4”:

fullsizeoutput_26da

For all the card base panels I wanted to make them look like the sky, so for the two smaller panels, I placed them next to each other and created a mask for clouds using the cloud dies from the Up & Away Thinlit Dies and sponged Balmy Blue ink onto the cardstock:

fullsizeoutput_26ddfullsizeoutput_26e0

For the bigger panel, I first used a sponge dauber with Pineapple Punch ink in the upper left corner and then used the sun stamp from Lilypad Lake in Crushed Curry, stamping several times for the effect. I then used the same cloud masks with a Stampin’ Sponge and Balmy Blue ink for the rest of the sky:

Since I knew I was making the bird from Lilypad Lake stamp set into a Heron, I wanted to make it look like he was “walking on a dock” for the front fold piece, so I used a piece of Wood Textures 6” x 6” DSP cut at 2” x 5 ¼”, embossed it with the Pinewood Planks Dynamic TIEF, and then sponged Early Espresso ink to give the embossing a darker definition:

fullsizeoutput_26ef

For the smaller two front fold panels, I cut two pieces of Whisper White cardstock at 2” x 2 ½”, sponged Balmy Blue ink, and then used the wave stamp in Balmy Blue and Blueberry Bushel inks. I also stamped the wave stamp in Blueberry Bushel ink on the front panel of the inner strip:

fullsizeoutput_26f5fullsizeoutput_26f8

I stamped the Heron in Memento Ink and then colored with Light and Dark Smoky Slate Stampin’ Blends. I stamped the sailboats 5 times in Memento Ink and then colored them in with Light and Dark Pineapple Punch, Light and Dark Call Me Clover, Light and Dark Poppy Parade, Light and Dark Highland Heather, Light and Dark Lovely Lipstick, Ivory, Bronze, Light Granny Apple Green, Light Bermuda Bay, Light Night of Navy, Dark Pool Party, Dark Petal Pink, Dark Flirty Flamingo, and Dark Mango Melody Stampin’ Blends Markers:

fullsizeoutput_26fb

Attach the panels to the card base and to the front fold base:

fullsizeoutput_26fefullsizeoutput_2701

I used Tear & Tape on the ends of the front fold and then attached to the card base:

fullsizeoutput_2704fullsizeoutput_2707

Next place the inner strip in the “box”. The easiest way I have found to make sure this piece is correct and the card folds over, is to adhere the end pieces first, and then fold the card closed and the two inner pieces will adhere correctly:

fullsizeoutput_270a

The final step is to adhere the Heron and all the sailboats! For the inner strip, I used glue dots at the bottom of the boat and then for the front fold panels I popped the smaller ones and the Heron up with Mini Dimensionals. I also used Wink of Stella on all 3 of the front fold panels:

fullsizeoutput_270dfullsizeoutput_2710fullsizeoutput_2713

After I put this all together, I felt like it needed a little bit more. So, I used the birds from the High Tide stamp set and heat embossed the sentiment from the Rooted in Nature stamp set in Copper Embossing Powder on Whisper White cardstock. This was then cut out with the smallest circle from the Stitched Labels Framelits and I also used the heart framelit from this set to cut out from Copper Foil Sheets:

fullsizeoutput_2716fullsizeoutput_2719

I just love how this turned out! Now I will admit these are not my instructions, I got them from Splitcoast Stampers! Having great instructions make it so easy to make and share creative ideas!!

Heat Embossing with Rooted in Nature

Hello and welcome to today’s card, which is a quick and easy card featuring the Nature’s Poem Suite. This is a great “any occasion” card that uses the front and back of one sheet of Designer Series Paper from Nature’s Poem, creating a very soft look, and I heat embossed the leaves in white to coordinate with the DSP.

To create this card, start with Crumb Cake cardstock, cut at 4 ¼” x 11”, and scored at 5 ½”:

fullsizeoutput_272c

The base layer of DSP is cut at 4” x 5 ¼” and the next layer of DSP is cut at 3 ½” x 4 ¾”:

For the sentiment and leaves, stamp the sentiment from Rooted in Nature on Whisper White cardstock and cut out using the largest Stitched Labels Framelits die, cut a piece of 3/8” Classic Weave Ribbon in Crumb Cake long enough to wrap around the bigger piece of DSP, and then on Crumb Cake, Soft Suede, and Cajun Craze cardstock, stamp the leaves in Versamark ink and heat emboss with White Emboss Powder, then cut out with the coordinating die from Nature’s Roots Framelits:

fullsizeoutput_2735

Adhere the two layers of DSP together, adhere the ribbon across (Hint-to help keep the ribbon in place, I use some adhesive along the backside of the ribbon), and then adhere this piece to the card base:

I used glue dots to adhere the leaves to the front and back of the sentiment piece and used dimensionals to adhere to the card front and added 3 of the Gold Metallic Pearls:

fullsizeoutput_273efullsizeoutput_2741

The inside of the card is Whisper White cardstock, cut at 4” x 5 ¼” and I adhered a leftover strip of the DSP along the bottom, leaving this open for any occasion:

fullsizeoutput_2744

That was quick and easy! The sentiment really makes this for any occasion, birthday, condolences, pick me up, and well, you get the picture!

Fall Theme Blog Hop!

fullsizeoutput_263b

Hello and welcome to the Stamp It Groups Fall Theme Blog Hop! Can you believe the official start of Fall is only 3 weeks away?? Today’s blog hop is a great way to get your mind set (and ready) for the upcoming holiday card and craft making! The card I am sharing today features the Rooted in Nature stamp set with Mango Melody, Cajun Craze, Mossy Meadow, and Copper accents. This is a very easy card to CASE and change the colors used to make it your own creation!

To create this card, start with Cajun Craze cardstock, cut at 4 ¼” x 11”, and scored at 5 ½” for your card base:

fullsizeoutput_2623

The base layer is Very Vanilla cardstock, cut at 4” x 5 ¼”. I then used both of the leaf stamps from Rooted in Nature in Mango Melody, Cajun Craze, and Mossy Meadow ink. I stamped off the leaf stamp after inking and randomly stamped them on the Very Vanilla cardstock:

fullsizeoutput_2626

You will need a piece of Copper Trim long enough to go across the front of the card and one of the Leaves Trinkets in copper. From the Stitched Labels Framelits, I used the bigger of the two circle dies to cut out a piece of Cajun Craze cardstock and the label framelit to cut out the sentiment in Copper Embossing Powder on Very Vanilla cardstock:

fullsizeoutput_2629

The adhere the Very Vanilla sentiment across the middle of the Cajun Craze piece and then use glue dots to adhere the Leaves Trinkets:

fullsizeoutput_262c

Use some adhesive on the back of the base layer to secure the Copper Trim and I used some dimensionals to secure it on the front before adding the layered sentiment piece:

fullsizeoutput_262ffullsizeoutput_2632

I applied adhesive directly to the card base so when I set the base layer on top, it would have some extra adhesive to secure the Copper Trim:

fullsizeoutput_2635

The inside is a piece of Very Vanilla cardstock, cut at 4” x 5 ¼” and I stamped the larger leaf stamp in Mango Melody ink and the smaller leaf stamp in Cajun Craze and Mossy Meadow inks down the side:

fullsizeoutput_2638

Wasn’t that easy?? Another great color combo would be Crushed Curry, Pumpkin Pie, and Old Olive! Any sentiment from the Rooted in Nature stamp set could be used for this card, it just depends on the occasion!

I used one of the smaller pieces of trimmed DSP (3” x 3”) and cut a piece of Rose Glimmer Paper to 3 ¼” x 3 ¼” to layer the DSP on top of:

fullsizeoutput_24c6

I used the sentiment from the Rooted in Nature Stamp Set, which I first stamped in Versamark ink, then Fresh Fig ink, and then heat embossed with Clear Embossing Powder. This is then adhered with liquid glue to the glimmer paper:

Just add words-Part 3

Hello and welcome to today’s card, which is featuring the Nature’s Poem Suite! This week I have been featuring cards for any occasion, which a sentiment can be added later, and this suite is a beautiful way to create this! For this card, I used some left over 3” x 3” Nature’s Poem DSP from a previous project, so this is another way to use those little pieces up!

The card base is Blackberry Bliss cardstock, cut at 4 ¼” x 11”, and scored at 5 ½”:

fullsizeoutput_23ff

The base layer is Very Vanilla cardstock, I used this leaf stamp in Blackberry Bliss ink, and then embossed with the Subtle DTIEF, which I inked with the Petal Pink Stampin’ Pad before embossing:

fullsizeoutput_2402

The 3” x 3” squares of Designer Series Paper is the same sheet from the Nature’s Poem DSP (front and back):

fullsizeoutput_2405

On Vellum cardstock, I used the leaf stamp in Blackberry Bliss and Soft Suede inks and then cut out with the coordinating die from the Nature’s Roots Thinlits Dies. The leaf is cut out and embossed with the coordinating die on a piece of Silver Foil Sheets and the small leaf is from the Leaves Trinkets in silver:

fullsizeoutput_2408

The 3” x 3” DSP is adhered to the base layer:

fullsizeoutput_240b

The vellum leaves are adhered to the back of the Silver Foil leaf with glue dots:

fullsizeoutput_240e

A piece of Linen Thread is wrapped around the base layer three times with the leaf trinket tied into the bow and adhered with a glue dot. The leaves are adhered to the DSP with Mini Dimensionals:

fullsizeoutput_2411

The base layer is adhered to the card base with dimensionals:

fullsizeoutput_2414

The inside piece of 4” x 5 ¼” Very Vanilla cardstock is stamped with the leaf stamp in Blackberry Bliss and Soft Suede ink, second and third generation stamping (inked the stamp and then stamped on the cardstock three times without re-inking):

fullsizeoutput_2417fullsizeoutput_241a

How easy was that?? Cutting your DSP to 3” x 3” or even 3 ½” x 3 ½” is a great way to use the DSP to create awesome cards!! Ribbon, trim, and embellishments add simple touches to your projects that make all the difference.
