Hello and welcome to today’s blog post, which kicks off my “ode to the retiring”! On March 24th, Stampin’ Up! released the annual catalog retirement list and the PDF version of the upcoming 2021 Annual Catalog! I don’t know about you, but I am always shocked by the retirement list, of course some things are a given, but then there are other products that I did not see coming! When it comes to the Playing with Patterns Suite, the one thing I am so happy that did not retire is the Playful Alphabet Dies! While I still do have the Number of Years and Letters for You bundles that retired a few years ago, the Playful Alphabet Dies are perfect for smaller words and numbers on your cards and crafts! However, today’s card is super quick and easy using some of my favorite punches, which are retiring May 3rd!
The base layer is this design from the Playing with Patterns 6” x 6” DSP, cut at 4” x 5 ¼”. You will cut the DSP into what I like to refer to as “the basic cut”, ¾” x 6”, 4” x 5 ¼”, and 2” x 5 ¼”:
For the card front, you will need:
1. From Silver Foil Sheet, use the Balloon Bouquet Punch to punch out one of each balloon.
2. On Basic White cardstock, stamp the sentiment from Pattern Play in Night of Navy ink and punch out with the 2” Circle Punch. I used the starburst stamp in Coastal Cabana, Crushed Curry, and Highland Heather (stamping this one off first) ink for the background.
3. Use the 2 ¼” Circle Punch to punch out of Coastal Cabana cardstock, this will be layered under the above circle sentiment piece.
4. You can use either the Purple Posy or Coastal Cabana ribbon from the Playing with Patterns Ribbon Combo Pack, cut at 13”, I’ll show you both versions.
5. You will need two of the Purple Posy and on Crushed Curry Playing with Patterns Resin Dots, any size you choose, not pictured.
I placed a small amount of adhesive on the DSP base layer to adhere the ribbon to the DSP as shown, adhered the layered circle sentiment piece on top of the ribbon, and used dimensionals to adhere the punched-out balloons as shown:
The resin dots are placed as shown and the completed base layer is adhered to a Night of Navy cardstock card base, cut at 4 ¼” x 11”, and scored at 5 ½”. This is what the alternative card with the Coastal Cabana ribbon looks like:
For the inside, cut a piece of Basic White cardstock at 4” x 5 ¼”, stamp the sentiment in Night of Navy ink, and adhere the ¾” x 6” piece of DSP along the bottom:
Let’s talk about that 2” x 5 ¼” piece of DSP for a minute…I typically will use this for the flap of my envelope as I have a retired die that cut’s this, but that got me to thinking about those of you who don’t. When I was working on my Easter cards this year, I used up some of my retired 6” x 6” and really didn’t want to die cut that 2” piece twelve times, but what about a corner rounder? The Detailed Trio Punch has this and Voila! you have something that works pretty darn close! I use liquid glue to adhere this, then you have a minute to line it up just right:
I honestly did not think that the Balloon Bouquet Punch or all of the Circle Punches would retire!! But, maybe there is something better coming out? Who knows? I think I will keep these punches for a while, even though you may not see them in my blog posts, but for those times that I want to make some quick cards using up left-over retired products!
