Hello and welcome to today’s blog post, which is a fun way to give your leaf design from the Rustic Harvest Designer Series Paper color with the Natural Tones Stampin’ Blends! While you may typically use red, greens, and oranges to color fall leaves to mimic when the leaves change color, using the Natural Tones blends is a great alternative. This also gives you an opportunity to experiment with the Natural Tones blends with blending a layering the different shades. I will also show you how using the Basic Borders Dies, embossing folders, and different cardstock gives your card fronts a unique and amazing look – hence the sentiment!
To start, cut a 4” x 12” piece of the leaf design from the Rustic Harvest DSP and then cut in half along the 12” side, giving you two 4” x 6” pieces. I used a combination of the 200, 300, 400, 500, 600, 800, and 900 Natural Tone Stampin’ Blends to color in all the leaves, some are single colors and others are a combination of two colors, using a darker color for the leaf veins and then a lighter color all over. After coloring, I cut a ¾” strip off the bottom of each, the 4” x 5 ¼” will be used for the card front and the ¾” x 4” will be for the inside. For the first card, I used the scalloped border die to die-cut slightly angled up from the bottom. Note-do not discard the small leftover die-cut, this will be cut at ½” (or ¾” if you die-cut slightly higher up than I did) to use for one of the inside strips along the bottom:
For the rest of the first card front, you will need:
1. Cut a 2 ¼” X 4” piece of the copper Brushed Metallic cardstock and emboss with the Hive 3D Embossing Folder.
2. Heat emboss the sentiment from Friends are Like Seashells in copper embossing powder on Very Vanilla cardstock and use the smallest Deckled Rectangle die to die-cut out. Note-I use the same sentiment and die-cuts for all three cards, so you can make all three at the same time.
3. Use the second smallest Deckled Rectangle die to die-cut out of Crumb Cake cardstock, this will be layered under the above sentiment. Note-you can die-cut three of these to be layered under the above sentiment.
4. You will need the Early Espresso Faux Suede Ribbon.
5. You will need the Brushed Metallic Dots, for this card I used three in brushed copper, not pictured.
Adhere the embossed metallic cardstock to the back of the DSP so you have a complete 4” x 5 ¼” base layer, use some adhesive on the DSP to adhere the faux suede ribbon as shown, use dimensionals to adhere the die-cut layered sentiment over the ribbon, place the brushed copper dots as shown, and adhere this completed piece to a Crumb Cake cardstock card base, cut at 5 ½” x 8 ½” and scored at 4 ¼”:
For cards 2 and 3, I used the zigzag die to die-cut across the DSP diagonally:
The base layers to adhere the die-cut DSP are a 4” x 5 ¼” piece of the bronze Brushed Metallic cardstock embossed with the Timber 3D Embossing Folder, and I used the Saddle Brown Stazon Pad to lightly drag down the cardstock so the embossed cardstock will pick up the color and give it a slightly tarnished look. The other base layer is a piece of Very Vanilla cardstock, embossed with the Leaf Fall 3D Embossing Folder, I used the Saddle Brown Stazon Pad to lightly drag across the embossed cardstock, and then I used a Soft Suede Stampin’ Write Marker with the cap to “flick” the brush tip for a splattered look. Note-I didn’t miss the top part, I knew that the DSP would be covering this part:
For the rest of the two card fronts, you will need the two embossed and die-cut cardstocks, the faux suede ribbon, and Brushed Metallic Dots:
For card 2, adhere the die-cut DSP to the bottom right corner of the embossed bronze Brushed Metallic cardstock, adhered a folded piece of the faux suede trim to the back of the layered die-cut sentiment, use dimensionals to adhere the sentiment across the base layer, place the three bronze Brushed Metallic Dots as shown, and this completed piece is adhered to a Crumb Cake cardstock card base, cut at 5 ½” x 8 ½” and scored at 4 ¼”:
For card 3, adhere the die-cut DSP to the top left corner of the embossed Very Vanilla cardstock, cut two 3” pieces of the faux suede ribbon to adhere to the back of the layered die-cut sentiment, use dimensionals to adhere the sentiment across the base layer, place three copper Brushed Metallic Dots as shown, and this completed piece is adhered to a Crumb Cake cardstock card base, cut at 5 ½” x 8 ½” and scored at 4 ¼”:
For the inside of the card, cut a piece of Very Vanilla cardstock at 4” x 5 ¼”, stamp the sentiment from Friends are Like Seashells in Early Espresso ink, and adhere the strip of DSP along the bottom. I did this the same way for all three cards:
For the coordinating Very Vanilla Medium Envelope, I embossed the envelope flap with the Leaf Fall 3D Embossing Folder, three of these for one for each card:
I just love how the leaves turned out using the Natural Tones Stampin’ Blends! Now you can easily color a whole sheet of this design from the DSP, but I thought I would hold back in case I think of another way to use this design. I also thought this was a great way to use some of the sentiments from Friends are Like Seashells for this unique and amazing fall themed card!
