Hello and welcome to today’s blog post, which is a bridge fold card featuring the Peaceful Place DSP and the Inspiring Canopy Dies! Christmas is a perfect time to make elaborate fun fold cards, but they don’t always have to be complicated. One of the first cards that came to mind when I saw the Peaceful Place DSP was a bridge fold card using the tree canopy die from the Inspiring Canopy Dies, and when you add just a few extra elements you have a beautiful Christmas card!
To start, I first used the tree canopy die to die-cut from the Snowy White Velvet sheet and Basic Gray cardstock. For the front panel of the card, cut a 1” x 5 ½” piece each from the Snowy White Velvet sheet and Basic Gray cardstock, and I used the long curved die right along the top of the Snowy White Velvet piece*. The sentiment is from Christmas to Remember is heat embossed in Silver Embossing Powder on Night of Navy cardstock and die-cut out with the coordinating die from the Seasonal Labels Dies. *If you prefer, you can cut the Snowy White Velvet front panel at 1 ¼” x 5 ½” to give you a little bit more room for the curved die and then trim any excess off when the pieces are layered together:
I used my Wink of Stella pen over the entire Basic Gray tree die-cut and adhered it, slightly off set, on top of the velvet tree die-cut using the Fine Tip Glue Pen. I used liquid glue to adhere the layered tree die-cut right along the top of the Basic Gray front panel piece and used mini dimensionals to adhere the velvet front panel piece over top. I used one of my Palette Knives to spread a small amount of the Shimmery White Embossing Paste along the top of the velvet front panel. *TIP-if your embossing paste dries out, add a little bit of water and mix well, until you get the desired consistency. Also, I used a piece of plastic wrap that I place over the opening before securing the lid, which does seem to help to keep it from drying out, along with keeping the container in a sealed bag:
Putting the above piece aside to dry, you will make the base layer by cutting a piece of Basic Gray cardstock at 4 ½” x 8” and scoring at 1 ¼”, 2 ½”, 5 ½”, and 6 ¾”:
Using this design from the Peaceful Place DSP to cut your panel pieces, you will cut four at 1” x 4” and one at 2 ¾” x 4”. For the back sentiment piece, cut a piece of Basic White cardstock at 2 ¾” x 4” and stamp the sentiment from Christmas to Remember in Night of Navy ink:
I used liquid glue to adhere all the panel pieces to the Basic Gray cardstock card base and a bone folder to burnish the score lines, the two inside panels toward the center of the card and the two outside panels away from the center (think a forward and backward “L”). Place a dollop of liquid glue in the bottom center of the outside panels, place the right end of the front panel on the folded outside panel and the left end of the front panel that is flattened out. Hold the glued ends for a few seconds, just long enough to NOT dry all the way, and move the outside panels back and forth, so one side is folded and the other side is flat. This will made sure that the card will fold down and fit into an envelope without bowing:
Use a little bit of liquid glue on the right end of the die-cut sentiment to adhere to the card front as shown and adhere your sentiment piece to the back. *TIP-Before the embossing paste completely dried, I sprayed a little bit of hair spray to help keep the embossing paste from flaking off and then sprayed a little bit more after completely dried:
For the envelope, I used a couple of snowflake stamps from Snowflake Wishes in Smoky Slate and Night of Navy inks:
Isn’t this a great fun fold card for Christmas? The design I chose from the Peaceful Place DSP looked like it was snowing to me, which I thought was perfect to pair with the canopy tree dies! One little “aha!” moment I had with this card, is that I remembered that I had some leftover White Velvet Sheets from last year (or the year before?) and when I compared them to the current Snowy White Velvet sheets, they are the same! So, if you still have some of the retired velvet sheets and run out of the current velvet sheets, you can use them both!
