A little note with Home to Roost

Hello and welcome to today’s card, which is a fun take on the rooster stamp from Home to Roost! I honestly never thought to use Pool Party, Bermuda Bay, and Night of Navy to color a rooster! I’ve seen so many colorful roosters with this stamp set, that I thought “why not??”. Paired with the Bermuda Bay cardstock that I used the Crackle Paint Background stamp to emboss in silver, I thought would be perfect!

The base layer is Bermuda Bay cardstock, cut at 4” x 5 ¼”, and embossed in Silver Embossing Powder with the Crackle Paint Background stamp:

For the rest of the card front, you will need from the Wood Textures 6” x 6” DSP a piece of the white-washed design, cut at 2” x 5 ¼” and the gray-washed design to cut out a circle with the second largest Layering Circles Framelits, a 4” piece of the Whisper White Flax Ribbon, and on Thick Whisper White cardstock, stamp the rooster in Memento ink, color the head with the Light Pool Party Stampin’ Blends, color the neck in, Dark Pool Party Stampin’ Blends, color the wing in Light Night of Navy Stampin’ Blends, color the underneath of the rooster in Light Bermuda Bay Stampin’ Blends, color the tailfeathers in Light and Dark Bermuda Bay and Light Night of Navy Stampin’ Blends, and then used the Light Smoky Slate Stampin’ Blends to color the ground underneath the rooster. This piece is then cut out with the second largest circle from the Stitched Shapes Framelits:

Before adhering the Wood Textures DSP, stamp the sentiment from Butterfly Gala in Bermuda Bay ink:

Adhere the Flax Ribbon across the middle of the cardstock (Tear Tape works best), adhere the layered circles together, and then use dimensionals to adhere on top of the Flax Ribbon:

This completed piece is adhered to a Bermuda Bay cardstock card base, cut at 4 ¼” x 11”, and scored at 5 ½”:

The inside is a 4” x 5 ¼” of Whisper White cardstock, the sentiment from Butterfly Gala and the wheat stamp are stamped in Bermuda Bay ink. To fill in the background of the wheat, second generation stamp:

Wasn’t that a quick and easy thank you card?? Don’t be afraid to use colors outside of your norm and you can always use a piece of printer paper to practice! That’s what I did with the rooster because I wasn’t quite sure how or which colors to use.

Rustic card with Home to Roost

Hello and welcome to today’s card, which features the Home to Roost stamp set! This super cute stamp set is in the 2019 Sale-A-Bration catalog and you can earn this for FREE with a qualifying $50 (USD) purchase! I honestly passed this stamp set by the first time I saw it in the SAB catalog, but then what really caught my eye was the card samples in the catalog, which inspired this card. Not only is the rooster another stamp that you can use to color in with your Stampin’ Blends, but look at the sentiments! These great for just simply sending a card, but I can totally see using “enjoy the simple moments” for scrapbooking! For this card, I really wanted to give it a distressed and rustic flare, which is so easy to do!

The card base is Early Espresso cardstock, cut at 4 ¼” x 11”, and scored at 5 ½”:

The base layer is Crumb Cake cardstock, cut at 4” x 5 ¼”:

To distress the Crumb Cake cardstock, first emboss the cardstock with the Tin Tile DTIEF, crumple the paper into a ball, unfold flat, use a sponge with Early Espresso ink along the raised impressions, take the edge of your scissors to distress the edges, and then use the sponge again with Early Espresso ink along the distressed edges:

The rooster is stamped on Very Vanilla cardstock in Memento ink, but before stamping, I used a Q-Tip to remove the ink around the bottom that looks like a shadow underneath. The image is then fussy cut out and colored in with Dark Pumpkin Pie, Dark Real Red, Light Cajun Craze, and Dark Soft Suede Stampin’ Blends:

Cut a 2 ½” x 3” piece of Very Vanilla cardstock, stamp the wheat image twice in Sahara Sand ink, use a blender pen with a little bit of Sahara Sand ink to fill in the ground, and then use a Basic Black Stampin’ Write Marker to color in the shading underneath the rooster, stamping this on the shaded ground:

The rooster is adhered with dimensionals on the Very Vanilla cardstock and then use a sponge with Early Espresso ink along the edges:

Cut a piece of Wood Textures DSP to 3” x 4 ½”, adhere the stamped cardstock, and then use enough Copper Trim to tie around into a bow:

This piece is then adhered to the base layer and then I used dimensionals to adhere this to the card base:

The inside is a 4” x 5 ¼” piece of Very Vanilla Cardstock and I stamped the wheat image along the bottom in Sahara Sand ink, using second generation stamping to fill in (or stamping off):

Wasn’t that easy?? A little sponging, a little distressing, and you get a rustic themed card! Again, I did not use any sentiments on the front or inside as this is one of my “use for any reason” cards! This stamp set would also make a great “masculine” card!!
