Hello and welcome to today’s blog post, which are quick and easy cards featuring the 2022-2022 In Color 6” x 6” Designer Series Paper, Baker’s Twine Pack, and Matte Decorative Dots with the Dragonfly Garden stamp set and Stylish Shapes Dies! I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to create a different way to use 6” x 6” DSP with just a few simple cuts! It is so easy to keep things the same with the same cut template with 6” x 6” DSP, so I wanted to change things up and figure out not only how to show you a different way to trim your DSP and have a little fun with the new 2022-2024 In Colors! I have had this paper, baker’s twine, and matte dots sitting out ready for use, so I wanted to keep the card designs fairly simple, that you can use with any of the In Colors and favorite stamp set!
For the 6” x 6” DSP, I used the Sweet Sorbet design and first cut along the bottom at 1 ¾” (1 ¾” x 6”), then turned the paper to the 6” side (6” x 4 ¼”) and cut at 2”, for three pieces measuring 2” x 4 ¼”. I then cut 1” off the 1 ¾” x 6” strip along the 6” side for a piece measuring 1 ¾” x 5”. You will have a small scrap that you can either toss or save for another card:
The base layer for card 1 card front is Basic White cardstock cut at 4” x 5 ¼” and embossed with the Painted Texture 3D Embossing Folder:
For the rest of the card front, you will need:
1. One of the 2” x 4 ¼” pieces of DSP and the 1 ¾” x 5” piece of DSP, each piece the two different designs. I used the Sweet Sorbet Baker’s Twine to tie around the bottom of the 1 ¾” x 5” piece of DSP three times and then tied into a knot.
2. Use the second largest circle Stylish Shapes Die to die-cut from Basic White cardstock, use the flower stamp from Dragonfly Garden to stamp the upper half in Memento ink, and use two of the 3mm and one 5mm Sweet Sorbet Matte Decorative Dots for the centers of the flowers. For this card, I used the lightest Sweet Sorbet dots.
The card base is Sweet Sorbet cardstock, cut at 5 ½” x 8 ½” and scored at 4 ¼”. I first adhered the embossed base layer cardstock to the card base, adhered the 2” x 4 ¼” piece of DSP horizontally across the embossed base layer cardstock (this will go to the edge on each side of the card base), use dimensionals to adhere the 1 ¾” x 5” DSP vertically as shown, and dimensionals on the right side of the die-cut circle so the left side lays on the DSP:
For card 2, cut a piece of Basic White cardstock at 4” x 5 ¼” and emboss with the Timeworn Type 3D Embossing Folder:
For the rest of the card front, you will need:
1. The last two 2” x 4 ¼” pieces of DSP, each piece the two different designs.
2. Use the second largest circle Stylish Shapes Die to die-cut from Basic White cardstock, use the flower stamp from Dragonfly Garden to stamp the upper half in Memento ink, and use two of the 3mm and one 5mm Sweet Sorbet Matte Decorative Dots for the centers of the flowers. For this card, I used one of each color.
3. Use enough of the Sweet Sorbet Baker’s Twine to fold in half and tie into a double bow, not pictured-oops!
I first lined the striped design about a ¼” from the side edge and to the top edge of the embossed base layer cardstock, the flower design about a ¼” from the opposite side edge and to the bottom edge of the embossed base layer cardstock, dimensionals to adhere the stamped die-cut circle, and a glue dot to adhere the baker’s twine double bow as shown. This is adhered to a Sweet Sorbet cardstock card base, cut at 5 ½” x 8 ½” and scored at 4 ¼”:
For the inside, cut a 4” x 5 ¼” piece of Basic White cardstock and stamp the sentiment in Sweet Sorbet ink and the butterflies along the bottom in Memento ink:
For the coordinating Basic White Medium Envelope, I stamped the top two-thirds of the flower stamp in Sweet Sorbet ink in the bottom left corner:
What a fun and easy way to make two completely different cards from one sheet of 6” x 6” designer series paper! With this simple design, you can easily use any 6” x 6” DSP and stamp set or like I did and use the new In Color DSP, ink, matte dots, and baker’s twine. Starting off with basic colors, black and white, and one In Color allows me to really “see” each color and then I can take things up a notch by slowly combining additional colors!
