Hello and welcome to today’s blog post, which is a classic Christmas themed card featuring products from the Painted Christmas Suite! When I first saw this suite in the 2021 July – December Mini Catalog, I immediately decided that this was going to be my main theme for my Christmas cards and crafts! While I am a sucker for snowflakes, I decided to change things up this year with the Painted Christmas Suite and the Peaceful Place DSP, but don’t despair, you will see snowflakes with my creations, lol! To get my creative inspiration going, I chose a simple design from the Painted Christmas DSP for the card front and added different textures, embellishments, and layers for a beautiful card to send/hand-out for the holidays. As an added bonus, I will also show you how I decorated the coordinating envelope, saving me time when I start sending out my Christmas cards! While I always decorate my envelopes to coordinate with the card I am sending out, it can be very tedious to go back and stamp/decorate with Christmas cards since this is one of the biggest mailings of the year, for me at least!
Let me first start off by saying that I made six of these cards and my instructions will be for this, but you can easily just make one. The base layer is Real Red cardstock, cut at 4” x 5 ¼”. I used this design from the Painted Christmas DSP, cut at 3 ¾” x 5”. I first cut 2” off the bottom of the 12” x 12” sheet and then cut that down into the 3 ¾” x 5” pieces. You will have one 2” x 12” strip and one ¾” x 10” strip leftover, which you will put aside and will use later for another card:
For the card front, you will need:
1. Use the sentiment label die and ribbon slot dies from the Seasonal Labels Dies to die-cut from Real Red cardstock. I used my Stamparatus to stamp the sentiment with Versamark ink and heat emboss with Gold Embossing Powder.
2. Cut a 4” x 6” piece of Garden Green cardstock, spritz with water, and emboss with the Timeworn Type 3D Embossing Folder, and then cut at 1” along the 6” side for 1” x 4” strips.
3. Use the two pinecone outline dies to die-cut from Early Espresso cardstock, you will need a total of 12.
4. I cut a 1” strip of the Snowy White Velvet Sheet, placed a strip of adhesive sheet on the back and used the two detailed pinecone dies to die-cut out, you will need a total of 12.
5. Cut a 2” x 2” square of the Snowy White Velvet Sheet and place it on the detailed die from the Christmas Pinecone Dies (see below) and snipped off the two pine tree leaves.
6. You will need enough of the White Glittered Organdy Ribbon to thread through the sentiment piece and tie around the DSP, into a bow. If you want to cut ahead of time, use about 15”.
7. You will need three of the Gold Metallic Pearls, not pictured.
Adhere the 1” strip of embossed Garden Green cardstock across the DSP layer, trimming off the excess, use dimensionals to adhere the die-cut sentiment piece over the middle of the 1” strip (do not place the dimensionals in the middle, you need this space for the ribbon), and then thread the ribbon behind the die-cut sentiment and around the DSP, tying into a knot and trimming off any excess. The two pinecone die-cuts are adhered together, I used glue dots to adhere the pine tree leaf behind the pinecone and then adhere each piece to the side of the die-cut sentiment as shown. I adhered the DSP piece to the 4” x 5 ¼” Real Red cardstock, adhered this to a Garden Green cardstock card base, cut at 4 ¼” x 11” and scored at 5 ½”, and then placed the Gold Metallic Pearls as shown:
For the inside, cut a piece of Basic White cardstock at 4” x 5 ¼”, stamp the sentiment in Real Red ink, stamp the smaller leaf of the holly leaf stamp in Pear Pizzazz ink (stamp off once first), stamp the smaller second layer of the holly leaf in Garden Green ink (stamp off once first), and then stamp holly stem in Pear Pizzazz ink and the berries in Real Red ink in the bottom left corner:
For the envelope front, stamp the holly leaf stamp and the small dot stamp in Pear Pizzazz ink (stamp off once first), the second layer holly leaf in Garden Green ink (stamp off once first), the holly berry stem in Pear Pizzazz ink, and the holly berries in Real Red ink. For the back of the envelope, the sentiment is stamped in Real Red ink across the flap:
Now you have six cards and coordinating envelopes ready to go! Normally I use the leftover 1 ½” x 12” strip to cut down into ¾” x 4” strips for the inside of the card, but I thought I would change things up and show you a quick and easy card made with leftover strips, so stay tuned for that!
