Hello and welcome to today’s card, which features the Tropical Oasis Suite from the 2020 Mini Catalog! I was fortunate to win the Timeless Tropical stamp set when I attended OnStage in Portland this past November, but I fell in love with this suite when I first saw it in the catalog! The timing couldn’t be better for the release of this suite after spending a few days with my mother and younger son in Hawaii, I right away knew that the perfect Christmas present for my mother would be a small scrapbook! Since she vacationed with us in the Outer Banks in June, the Come Sail Away Suite was perfect for those pictures, and the Tropical Oasis Suite was perfect for the pictures taken in Hawaii! Since the scrapbook was an 8” x 8”, that left me with several perfect pieces of DSP for card making and to get started on those January birthdays!
For this card, I used this design from the DSP, cut at 4” x 5 ¼”, for the base layer:
Additionally, you will need the following for the card front:
1. 2” x 4” piece of Crumb Cake cardstock, embossed with the Coastal Weave 3D Embossing Folder.
2. A 4” strip of the Braided Burlap Trim, use your fingertips/nails to fray the ends.
3. A ¾” x 4” strip of DSP, this is the back design from the one used for the base layer.
4, Stamp the sentiment in Poppy Parade ink on Whisper White cardstock and cut out with the second smallest layering Stitched Rectangle Dies.
5. One leaf trinket.
6. Use the flower die to cut out one set in Poppy Parade cardstock and another in Petal Pink cardstock. Keep the smallest and largest flowers in each color for the front and the two middle flowers will be used for the inside. You will also need Rhinestone Basic Jewels for the centers.
Adhere the embossed Crumb Cake cardstock to the base layer DSP, slightly down from the top and away from the edge for a dimensional to fit in-between. Adhere the strip of DSP to the base layer with dimensionals (on each end):
Use glue dots to adhere the flowers to the sentiment piece and then use a 4mm rhinestone in the middle of the large flower and a 3mm rhinestone in the middle of the small flower (the rhinestone hides the glue dots). Adhere the sentiment over the embossed cardstock with a dimensional on each side:
Use liquid glue to adhere the burlap trim to the strip of DSP and to adhere the trinket to the burlap trim. This completed piece is adhered to a Thick Whisper White cardstock card base, cut at 4 ¼” x 11”, and scored at 5 ½”:
For the inside, cut a piece of Poppy Parade cardstock at 4” x 5 ¼” and a piece of Whisper White cardstock at 3 ¾” x 5”. Stamp the sentiment in Poppy Parade ink and then adhere the two remaining flowers with glue dots (the leaves are big enough to hide the glue dot under):
Isn’t this a super cute card?? Now, Poppy Parade and Petal Pink are NOT listed as coordinating colors for this DSP, but after comparing cardstocks, I thought these coordinated with the DSP better. The strip of DSP is actually that 1 ½” strip that you have when you cut a 12” x 12” sheet down at 4”, I just cut this in half and made two of these cards!
