Hello and welcome to today’s blog post, which is a fun and bright fun fold birthday card featuring the new Sunshine & Rainbows 6” x 6” DSP! When you have fun DSP you have to pair it with a fun stamp set, like the Hey Birthday Chick stamp set and coordinating Birthday Chick dies! While I have been wanting to try the bookfold card that I’ve seen around recently (which is super easy), this is also the perfect time to show you how you can pair the Sunshine & Rainbows DSP with another stamp set to create a super cute card! As an added bonus, you will get two cards featuring the bookfold fun fold card, Sunshine & Rainbows DSP, Hey Birthday Chick stamp set, and Birthday Chick dies!
For the first card, start with a Bermuda Bay cardstock card base, cut at 4 ¼” x 11” and scored at 4 ¼” and 5 ½”:
Using this design from the Sunshine & Rainbows DSP, cut one piece at 2” x 6” (this will be used for the envelope flap), one piece at 4” x 4”, and two pieces at 1” x 4”. The 4” x 4” and one of the 1” x 4” will be used for the card front and the other 1” x 4” will be used with the streamer die from the Birthday Chick dies:
For the rest of the card front, you will need:
1. Use the second largest scalloped Layering Circles Die to die-cut from Bermuda Bay cardstock.
2. On Basic White Cardstock, stamp the chicken with the cupcake stamp in Memento ink. The cupcake is colored in with Dark Daffodil Delight, Light Magenta Madness, Light and Dark Pool Party, and Light and Dark Bermuda Bay Stampin’ Blends. The chicken feet and beak are colored in with Light Pumpkin Pie, the “hair” with Light Pool Party, Dark Daffodil Delight, Light Misty Moonlight, and Light Magenta Madness, and the body is colored in with SU400, SU600, and SU900 Natural Tones Stampin’ Blends. Die-cut out with the second largest Layering Circles Die, color underneath the chick with Light Smoky Slate and Light Pool Party Stampin’ Blends and use the confetti stamp to stamp in Bermuda Bay and Pool Party inks. This piece will the layered on top of the above die-cut cardstock.
3. Using the “happy birthday” die, die-cut once from Bermuda Bay and twice from Basic White cardstocks. These will be adhered on top of each other, with Bermuda Bay on top.
4. Enough white baker’s twine to tie around the card front into a bow.

I adhered the layered die-cuts together and used the streamer die to die-cut three pieces from one of the 1” x 4” strip of DSP. Adhere the layered “happy birthday” die-cut to the bottom of the 4” x 4” DSP, with the layered circle die-cuts above, and then adhere the streamers as shown:
You will burnish the score lines on the card base and use liquid glue to adhere the 1 ¼” area to the back of the cardstock, which creates your “bookfold”. I adhered the 1” strip and the 4” x 4” base layer to the card base, tied the baker’s twine into a bow, and placed the three Opal Rounds as shown:
For the inside, cut a 4” x 4” piece of Basic White cardstock and stamp the sentiment in Bermuda Bay ink and the confetti stamp in Pool Party ink:
For the coordinating envelope, adhere the 2” x 6” piece of DSP along the flap, trimming off the excess, and stamp the baby chick in Bermuda Bay ink on the front of the envelope:
For the second card, the card base is Bermuda Bay cardstock cut at 5 ½” x 8 ½” and scored at 3” and 4 ¼”:
Using the same design DSP, first cut a ¾” x 6” strip off the end and then cut the 6” x 5 ¼” piece along the 6” side at 1”, 2 ¼” and 2 ¾”. The 1” x 5 ¼” and 2 ¾” x 5 ¼” pieces will be for the card front, the 2 ¼” x 5 ¼” will be for the envelope, and the ¾” x 6” will be used to die-cut the streamers:
For the rest of the card front, you will need:
1. Stamp the baby chick on Basic White cardstock with Memento ink three times and die-cut out each with the second smallest Layering Circles Dies. These are colored with Light Pumpkin Pie, Light Daffodil Delight, Light Pool Party, Light Bermuda Bay, and Light Magenta Madness Stampin’ Blends.
2. Use the second smallest scalloped Layering Circles Die to die-cut three pieces from Bermuda Bay cardstock, which will be adhered behind the above die-cut pieces.
3. Use enough of the white baker’s twine to tie around the card base into a bow.
4. Use the “happy birthday” die to die-cut once from Bermuda Bay cardstock and twice from Basic White cardstock, these will be adhered together with the Bermuda Bay on top.
5. Use three of the 6mm Opal Rounds, not pictured.
6. Use the streamer die to die-cut three pieces from the ¾” x 6” DSP strip.
Adhere the die-cut happy birthday to the bottom of the 2 ¾” x 5 ¼” DSP base layer, the layered circle baby chicks with dimensionals, and the three streamers as shown. Burnish the score lines on the cardstock card base and adhere the 1 ¼” area to the back of the cardstock. Adhere the 1” x 5 ¼” strip of DSP along the top, the 2 ¾” x 5 ¼” base layer to the card flap, tie the baker’s twine around the top DSP strip into a bow, and place the Opal Rounds as shown:
For the inside, cut a 2 ¾” x 5 ¼” piece of Basic White cardstock, stamp the sentiment in Bermuda Bay ink and the confetti in Pool Party ink:
For the coordinating envelope, adhere the 2 ¼” x 5 ¼” piece of DSP to the flap, trim off the excess, and stamp the baby chick in the corner in Bermuda Bay ink:
Such super cute birthday cards! Not only is this an easy fun fold card, but it also gives you the opportunity to use BOTH sides of the DSP design! Since there are four sheets of each design for the Sunshine & Rainbows 6” x 6” DSP, I used all four sheets to make two of each card!
