Hello and welcome to today’s blog post, which is a fun and easy card featuring the Let’s Set Sail Bundle and the Dandy Designs 12” x 12” Designer Series Paper! I thought I would do something a little different and give you card making inspiration using one design from the Dandy Designs DSP with two different stamp bundles! There are 48 sheets of the Dandy Designs DSP, which could really last you all year, but I wanted to show you how you can use this fun DSP with products from the annual catalog. The design I’m using for today’s card gives me a “nautical” vibe, so pairing it with the Let’s Set Sail Bundle is perfect to make three of these cards!
The base layer for the card front is this design from the Dandy Designs DSP, cut at 4” x 5 ¼”:
For the rest of the card front, you will need:
1. Use the third from the largest Deckled Rectangle Dies to die-cut from Vellum cardstock.
2. Cut a piece of Basic White cardstock at 4” x 2 5/8” and use Blending Brushes with Pale Papaya and Balmy Blue inks to color, this will be layered on the above Vellum cardstock. Tip-I tried something new that I saw a while back and used a clear block (C) to tap on the ink pad to first pick up the ink and then tapped the blending brush to pick up the ink, for me, this worked better than tapping the blending brush directly on the ink pad.
3. Using the opposite side design of the ¾” x 4” strip of DSP (I would normally use this for the inside of the card), I cut the 4” side down to 3 ¼” and used the flag end of the Banners Pick a Punch to punch each end.
4. I used a Night of Navy Stampin’ Write Marker to partially ink the sentiment, stamped on a piece of Basic White cardstock, and used the smaller, long banner die from Stylish Shapes Dies to die-cut out. This will be layered on the above DSP piece.
5. Cut a 3 ½” piece of the Night of Navy Bordered Ribbon, this will be layered under the above banner layered piece.
6. Stamp the sailboat sails in Night of Navy ink and the mast and hull stamp in Basic Gray inks with sponge daubers on Basic White cardstock and use the Sailboat Builder Punch to Punch out. TIP-I made a template with the punch and cardstock to line up the stamps exactly with the punch and stamp with my Stamparatus.
7. You will need four 3mm Pearl Basic Jewels, two colored with a Dark Night of Navy and two colored with a Dark Balmy Blue Stampin’ Blends, not pictured.
To assemble the card front, I used liquid glue to adhere the two banner layers together, placed adhesive on the back to adhere the ribbon, use liquid glue to adhere the punched mast and hull to the 4” x 2 5/8” cardstock, mini dimensionals to adhere the sails, use the shadow stamp to stamp below the sailboat in Balmy Blue ink, and adhere this piece to the die-cut Vellum cardstock. I used mini dimensionals to first adhere the sentiment piece along the bottom of the DSP, adhere the layered rectangle piece to the DSP base layer above the sentiment, and placed one of each colored pearl on the side of the layered rectangle piece as shown. This completed piece is adhered to a Night of Navy cardstock card base, cut at 5 ½” x 8 ½” and scored at 4 ¼”:
For the inside, cut a piece of Basic White cardstock at 4” x 5 ¼”, stamp the sentiment as shown in Night of Navy ink and stamp the sailboat in Night of Navy and Basic Gray inks:
For the coordinating Basic White Medium Envelope, I stamped the sailboat in Night of Navy and Basic Gray inks:
How fun is this card to make? I feel that you could use it for a variety of occasions, even a masculine themed card! If you really want to make this a little bit easier, you could omit any die-cutting and cut a piece of Vellum cardstock at 4 ¼” x 3” and cut a piece of Basic White cardstock at ½” x 3”, then use the flag side of the Banner Pick a Punch on each end.
