Hello and welcome to today’s blog post, which wraps up my Valentine’s Day card making featuring the Dandy Designs 12” x 12” Designer Series Paper and the Alphabet a la Mode Dies! Every time a new alphabet and number dies set comes out, I always tell myself “You don’t need those, do you??” and then they end up in my order anyways! In my defense, they are completely different than the dies in the past, so why not? Lol! When I sat down to make this card, I realized that I only needed a few more cards for Valentine’s Day and didn’t need to cut up a whole sheet of 12” x 12” DSP, so I used what I had left over from the slimline card that I made last week. This worked out perfectly because I had one piece at 5” x 12” and another piece at 3 ½” x 7”, I cut the 5” x 12” sheet into three 4” x 5” base layers and used a Deckled Rectangle Die to cut three pieces from the 3 ½” x 7” sheet which I used for layering on the card front. While I was designing the card and had decided to use the Alphabet a la Mode Dies for the X and the O, I had an “aha!” moment and will show you a little trick on how I made the arrow for the heart!
For the card front base layer, I used this design from the 5” x 12” sheet of left-over DSP that I cut into three 4” x 5” base layers:
For the rest of the card front, you will need:
1. Use the fourth from the smallest Deckled Rectangle Die to die-cut from Crumb Cake cardstock.
2. Use the third from the smallest Deckled Rectangle Die to die-cut three pieces from the 3 ½” x 7” sheet of DSP, this will be layered on the above die-cut piece.
3. Use the large, scalloped Heart Punch to punch out of Fresh Freesia cardstock and use the Splatter EF to emboss.
4. Use the Crumb Cake baker’s twine from the Baker’s Twine Essentials Pack to fold into two pieces and tie into a small bow.
5. Use the X and the O die from Alphabet a la Mode to die-cut from the metallic Rose Gold Specialty Paper.
6. From the Alphabet a la Mode Dies, use the exclamation point, dash, and less than/more than dies to die-cut from Basic Black cardstock, you will want to die-cut two of the dashes. Note, you will not need the die-cut period from the exclamation point.
7. You will need three of the 4mm Champagne Rhinestone Basic Jewels, not pictured.
To assemble the card front, use liquid glue to adhere the die-cut X and O to the embossed scalloped heart, adhere the two die-cut dashes to one end and the less than/more than to the other end of the die-cut line (exclamation point) creating the arrow, and then cut the arrow in half. Adhere each half of the arrow to the heart as shown, adhere this to the layered DSP and cardstock rectangles, then this piece is adhered to the middle of the DSP base layer. I adhered the DSP base layer to a Crumb Cake cardstock card base, cut at 5 ½” x 8 ½” and scored at 4 ¼”, use a glue dot to adhere the baker’s twine bow, and place the Champagne Rhinestone Basic Jewels as shown:
For the inside, use the sentiment from Country Bouquet stamped in Fresh Freesia ink and use the small double heart stamp in Petal Pink ink:
For the coordinating Basic White Medium Envelope, I used the small double heart stamp to stamp three times along the side in Petal Pink ink:
What a good way to use up those “odd” sheets of DSP that are left over from making a slimline card! How ingenious to use the Alphabet a la Mode Dies to create an arrow for the bow! I did struggle with this card at first, which side of the DSP to use and which cardstock to use, but I really like how this card turned out in the end!
