Hello and welcome to today’s blog post, which is a very special slimline wedding card featuring the Celebrate with Sunflowers stamp set, Sunflowers Dies, and the new Timber 3D Embossing Folder! Oh, how I miss the Pinewood Planks 3D Embossing Folder (I still have it, but do not use it on my blog since it is retired)! However, there is an awesome updated folder called the Timber 3D Embossing Folder that is available now to demonstrators and August 3rd to customers when the 2021 July-December Mini Catalog goes live! What makes this card special, is that it was made for a very dear and special friend of mine (she’s my chosen sister) who was married this last weekend! She actually asked me to make her wedding invitations, which I will show you at the end, and the theme of her wedding was sunflowers! So, the Celebrate Sunflowers and coordinating Sunflowers Dies were perfect! Of course, my card just had to coordinate, but I didn’t realize that I used all of the darker wood grained DSP from In Good Taste, so the Timber 3D EF came to the rescue! I also figured out how to make a custom envelope for the card because I was not going to just use a regular old envelope! Lol
The base layer is Early Espresso cardstock, cut at 3 ¾” x 8 ¾”. Getting the whole piece of cardstock embossed was a little tricky, but I made it work! I wanted the wood grain to be horizontal on the cardstock, which meant that due to the length of the cardstock, I had to run the embossing folder sideways, which you’re not supposed to do and I was careful. I placed the top plate almost to the end, so that there is no embossed line from the folder, turned the cardstock around to line up the unbossed end in the folder, and again placed the top plate to the end. As you can see, there is a slight line, which I liked better than having a defined line from the embossing folder. I then used a blender brush with Early Espresso ink over the embossed cardstock to give it a little bit of depth:
For the card front, you will need:
1. On Very Vanilla cardstock, use Memento ink to stamp the large sunflower two times, use Light and Dark Soft Suede, Light and Dark Daffodil Delight, and Light So Saffron Stampin’ Blends to color in, and use the coordinating die to die-cut each sunflower out.
2. Place some adhesive sheet on the back of Copper Foil Sheet, use the detailed sunflower to die-cut out two pieces, and the detailed leaf die to die-cut out four pieces.
3. On Very Vanilla cardstock, heat emboss the sentiment from Forever Fern in Copper Embossing Powder and use the second largest Stitched Rectangle Die to die-cut out.
Remove the adhesive backing from the Copper Foil die-cuts to adhere to the colored sunflowers and then cut both sunflowers in half. I used liquid glue to adhere the sunflower halves to the embossed base layer as shown:
Use glue dots to adhere the leaves at the corners of the die-cut sentiment, remove the adhesive backing from the leaves and use additional glue dots to adhere the die-cut sentiment and leaves to the embossed base layer as shown. This completed piece is adhered to a Thick Very Vanilla cardstock card base, cut at 8” x 9”, and scored at 4”:
For the inside, cut a piece of Very Vanilla cardstock at 3 ½” x 8 ½” and a piece of Early Espresso cardstock at 3 ¾” x 8 ¾”, using the corner rounder from the Detailed Trio Punch on two of the opposite corners for both cardstocks. Stamp the sentiment from Peaceful Moments, the small sunflowers, and leaves in Early Espresso ink. The sunflowers are colored in with Light and Dark Soft Suede, Light and Dark Daffodil Delight, and Light So Saffron Stampin’ Blends and the leaves are colored in with Light and Dark Granny Apple Green Stampin’ Blends. The layered cardstocks are adhered together and then adhered to the base layer:
For the custom envelope, you will need a piece of 12” x 12” Very Vanilla cardstock, cut at 9 ¼” x 11 ½”. Along the 11 ½” side, you will score at 1” from one end and at 1 ¼” from the other end, these will be your top and bottom flaps. Along the 9 ¼” side, score at 2 ¾” and at 7 ¼”. Along the 11 ½” side, you will use your paper snips to cut out the top and bottom corner pieces (for both sides) and use the corner rounder from the Detailed Trio Punch on the flap corners. I burnished all of the score lines and used liquid glue to adhere the seam from the 2 ¾”and 7 ¼” folds (the 2 ¾” fold is on the bottom), and the 1” bottom fold to what is now your envelope:
For simple decoration, I inked the large sunflower in Crumb Cake ink, stamped off once on a scrap piece of paper, and then stamped on the cardstock envelope. I later decided to use some Gold Fine Art Ribbon that I tied into a bow to secure the top flap of the envelope:
Here are the invitations, which measure 4 ¼” x 5 ½”. On one side, I used the Celebrate Sunflowers stamp set, Sunflowers Dies, Forever Fern stamp set, Letters for You stamp set (Retired) heat embossed in copper, Stitched Rectangle Dies, and In Good Taste DSP. For the other side, the Sunflowers stamp set, Stampin’ Blends, Detailed Trio Punch, and the So Inviting stamp set (Retired) heat embossed in copper:
Despite the heat, the wedding was beautiful and the bride was stunning! As one of her seven bridesmaids, I was so very happy to celebrate the special day with my dear sister and her new husband!
