In case you missed it, this week I am featuring the Waterfront stamp set, which is in the 2018 Occasions Catalog on page 48. Today I thought I would try the Spotlight Technique with this stamp set and as a bonus you get two cards! Making two sceneries almost exactly the same is actually quite easy. I first started by stamping the scenery in gray and then stamped the other in color, the mountains are what I used as a base line to start.
The card base is in Marina Mist card stock cut at 5 ½” x 8 ½”, scored at 4 ¼”, the base layer is the Wood Textures Designer Series Paper Stack, cut at 5 ¼” x 4”, and the scenery is stamped on Whisper White card stock cut at 5” x 3 ¾”. Be sure to have a scrap piece of paper for stamping off as you go.
The first scenery I started with the mountains, first stamping in Basic Gray ink and then stamping in Smoky Slate so the front is darker than the back mountains. Next, stamp the grass in Smoky Slate ink, stamping off first. The water, house, and clouds were both stamped in Basic Gray ink, stamping off first. Finally, I stamped the speckled stamp in Basic Gray ink.
To stamp the same scenery in color, first place both pieces of the Whisper White card stock next to each other so they line up, then stamp the mountains in Crumb Cake ink so it goes straight across and then stamp the background mountains in Sahara Sand ink. The grass is stamped in Pear Pizzazz, stamping off first, the water and clouds are both stamped in Marina Mist ink, a combination of direct stamping and stamping off, and then the speckled and house stamps are in Dapper Denim ink.
To make this a spotlight technique, I used the 4th and 5th largest square framelits (starting from the smallest) from the Layering Square Framelits. The smaller square is used to cut out the scenery and then the larger is used to cut out in Marina Mist card stock, adhere these together. The sentiment is stamped in Marina Mist ink on a ½” piece of Whisper White card stock with the end trimmed using the Banner triple punch.
To put the card together, adhere the Wood Textures DSP to the card base, adhere the scenery on top, use Stampin’ Dimensionals to adhere the square layers, and then use a Mini Dimensional on the end of the sentiment.
