Let’s Go Fishing Week – P2

Hello and welcome to today’s blog post, which is a super fun Father’s Day card featuring the Let’s Go Fishing Suite! This card is perfect for the father and father figures in your life and was easy to make! I wasn’t too sure at first if my idea was going to work, but I wanted to figure out a way to use an additional piece of cardstock for the background of the tackle box. Which wasn’t that hard, the hardest part was embossing the sentiment since I wanted to pop up the lid of the tackle box with foam adhesive strips and that’s were my Stamparatus came to the rescue! Using the brushed silver from the Silver Foil Specialty Pack to die-cut the fishing hooks and weights is a great way to give this card those fun accents!

The base layer for the card front is this design from the Let’s Go Fishing DSP, using the large framelit die to die-cut out:

To make the tackle box, I used the lid die to die-cut out of Wild Wheat cardstock, used adhesive foam strips around the edges and down the middle, and use this as a template to make a solid background from Mossy Meadow cardstock. I used my Stamparatus to line up those two pieces so I could stamp the sentiment in Versamark ink and heat emboss with black embossing powder:

For the rest of the card front, you will need:

1. I used the brushed Silver Foil, with adhesive sheet on the back, to die-cut out the four hooks and six weights.

2. On Very Vanilla cardstock stamp the two lures first in Smoky Slate ink, the second step in Misty Moonlight ink, the other lure is inked first in Smoky Slate ink and use a Misty Moonlight Stampin’ Write Marker to color half of the fly-fishing lure. These are all die-cut out with the coordinating dies.

3. On Very Vanilla cardstock, the lure and the bobber are first stamped in Wild Wheat ink, the second step in Mossy Meadow and Copper Clay inks, and die-cut out with the coordinating dies.

To assemble the card front, I removed the adhesive backing from the foam strips to adhere the die-cut lid to the cardstock background layer, use liquid glue to adhere this centered on the DSP base layer, and adhere this piece to a Gray Granite cardstock card base, cut at 4 ¼” x 11” and scored at 5 ½”. I first placed the die-cut lures, bobber, hooks, and weights where I wanted them, removed the adhesive backing from the silver foil die-cuts and used liquid glue to adhere the rest:

For the inside of the card, cut a 4” x 5 ¼” piece of Very Vanilla cardstock, stamp the sentiment in Misty Moonlight ink, the fly-fishing lure in Smoky Slate ink and Misty Moonlight Stampin’ Write Marker, the bobber in Wild Wheat and Copper Clay inks, and the “fishing line” is the balloon string from Beautiful Balloons in Smoky Slate ink:

For the coordinating Very Vanilla Medium Envelope, the lures are stamped in Smoky Slate and Misty Moonlight inks:

How fun is this Father’s Day card to make? Honestly, to make this card even easier, don’t do what I did, just use the large framelit die for the tackle box and not a base layer DSP piece and maybe skip the foam adhesive strips or even use the leftover die-cut from that spot to heat emboss or stamp your sentiment. Either way, I’m still pleased with how this card turned out!
