Hello and welcome to today’s blog post, which is all about picking out the perfect Christmas Tree featuring the Trees For Sale stamp set, Tree Lot Dies, and Festive Foils Specialty Designer Series Paper! So, do you put up a live tree or an artificial tree for Christmas every year? While artificial trees have been around for a very long time, my husband and I both grew up with live Christmas Trees and have continued to have them to this very day! Since our granddaughters were here for Thanksgiving this year, we took them to the lot that we buy from every year to pick out the tree and help us decorate it before they left. The girls really enjoyed helping us pick out our tree last year but ran out of time for them to help us decorate it, so we made sure that they were able to decorate it this year. They really got a kick out of our ornaments, especially the ones that their dad made for me when he was their age! Going to the tree lot and picking out our Christmas Tree is the inspiration for today’s card, which is easy to make. The Festive Foils Specialty DSP is perfect for when you want to add a little shimmer to your cards, but still allowing stamped images to be the focal point for your card front. I used a whole sheet of the 12” x 12” DSP to create six of these cards, so keep that in mind if you choose to make six cards as well.
The base layer for the card front is the Soft Succulent design from the Festive Foils Specialty DSP, cut at 4” x 5 ¼”. I cut the 12” x 12” sheet down into six 4” x 6” pieces and then cut ¾” off the 6” side for a 4” x 5 ¼” piece for the card front and a ¾” x 4” strip for the inside of the card:
For the tree scenery, use the fourth from the largest Deckled Rectangle Die to die-cut from Basic White cardstock, start with the large tree to stamp in Soft Sea Foam ink (I first stamped the trees along the side edge first and then stamped in the middle), stamped the middle tree in Soft Succulent ink in-between the large trees, and then stamp the small tree in Shaded Spruce ink in-between the medium trees:
For the rest of the card front, you will need:
1. Use enough of the Silver Metallic Edge Ribbon to tie around the base layer DSP into a knot.
2. Stamp the sign in Soft Suede ink on Sahara Sand cardstock and use the coordinating die to die-cut out.
3. Use the trio star die to die-cut ten stars from Silver Foil sheet.
To assemble the card front, first tie the ribbon around the base layer into a knot, adhere the deckled die-cut layer centered above the ribbon, use liquid glue to place small dots on the tree tops, use your Take Your Pick Tool to pick up the die-cut silver stars to adhere to the tree tops, use a dimensional to adhere the die-cut sign, and adhere this completed piece to a Soft Succulent cardstock card base, cut at 5 ½” x 8 ½” and scored at 4 ¼”:
For the inside, cut a piece of Basic White cardstock at 4” x 5 ¼”, stamp the sentiment in Soft Succulent ink, and adhere the ¾” x 4” strip of DSP to the left side:
For the coordinating Basic White Medium Envelope, stamp one of each tree in the bottom corner the same way as the card front (Soft Sea Foam, Soft Succulent, and Shaded Spruce):
How fun and festive is this card? While this may seem like a lot of die-cutting, I was able to mitigate some of it by die-cutting the signs and some of the stars at the same time, but if you make six of these cards, you will need 60 star die-cuts. For me, this was a great way to use up those little pieces of Silver Foil that I may not be able to use up, you know, those awkward pieces that you really only can use little dies on. But then again if you have a small star punch or even adhesive backed stars, you can use those in place of the die-cuts!
