Hello and welcome to today’s blog post, which is another fun watercolor card featuring the Blessings of Home stamp set! What first started out to use the 2” x 6” strip of gold striped paper from my previous post, really took a direction of its own! I knew that this would be used as an accent piece, but just not sure how it would be used. Since we are not only at the end of July, but it is also the end of World Watercolor Month, so let’s have one more watercolor card! That is where Blessings of Home stamp set comes in and everything else just builds from there. When I decided what colors I wanted to use for water coloring, I also tried a different way of water coloring to give the flowers and leaves a little bit of depth by using darker colors for shading after blending the lighter color. Oh yeah, the best part? I used a blender pen, so there was no mess and no accidental pools of water! Easy-peasy!!
The base layer for the card front is a piece of the gold Brushed Metallic cardstock, cut at 4” x 5 ¼”, and embossed with the Hive 3D Embossing Folder:
For the rest of the card front, you will need:
1. Cut a 4 ¼” x 3” piece of Melon Mambo cardstock and a piece of this design from Vellum Layering Designs, which will be adhered on top of the Melon Mambo cardstock.
2. A 2” x 6” strip of the gold striped paper from the Silver & Gold Specialty Paper.
3. On Thick Basic White cardstock, stamp the large flower stamp from Blessings of Home in Sahara Sand ink. I first colored the leaves with a Granny Apple Green Watercolor Pencil, the flower centers in Daffodil Delight Watercolor Pencil, the flowers in Flirty Flamingo and a few of the small flowers in Melon Mambo Watercolor Pencils, and used a Blender Pen to blend the coloring. I then used a Garden Green Watercolor Pencil on the leaves and the Melon Mambo Watercolor Pencil on the flowers to give some depth, also using a Blender Pen to soften the lines. This is then die-cut out with the coordinating Flowers of Home Die.
4. Use enough of the gold Simply Elegant Trim to tie into a double bow.
To assemble, I first adhered the 2” x 6” gold striped paper to the middle of the embossed base layer, trimming off the excess, adhered the die-cut flowers to the Vellum Layering Designs piece, placed adhesive on the backside of the vellum behind the die-cut to adhere the vellum to the Melon Mambo cardstock piece, used dimensionals to adhere this layered piece in the middle of the embossed base layer, and used a glue dot to adhere the double bow. This completed piece is adhered to a Melon Mambo cardstock card base, cut at 5 ½” x 8 ½” and scored at 4 ¼”:
For the inside, stamp the sentiment from Peaceful Moments in Melon Mambo ink on a 4” x 5 ¼” piece of Basic White cardstock:
For the coordinating Basic White Medium Envelope, I stamped the flower in Sahara Sand ink in the corner and embossed the envelope flap with the Hive 3D Embossing Folder:
What a great way to mix and match products and use your Watercolor Pencils! Flirty Flamingo and Melon Mambo are not colors I typically use, however, I really like how the Watercolor Pencils complement each other. This card has lots of layers and textures and was so easy to make!
