Hello and welcome to today’s blog post, which is a quick and easy tropical themed card featuring the Paradise Palms Bundle and the Silver & Gold 6” x 6” Specialty Paper! As promised, I decided to test out the Silver & Gold Specialty Paper to see how well you can color the paper with Blending Brushes and Sponge Daubers! After coloring the paper with Blending Brushes, I decided to keep blending and create a tropical themed card! For the card front, I used Blending Brushes to color the paper and it took a little bit of extra work because I had to keep going over the paper to get the color dark enough for me, however, for the strip of paper I used for the inside, using a sponge dauber was much easier and quicker. Not that I have an issue with either way, I just wanted to share with you my experience with using a Blending Brush and a sponge dauber.
For the card front base layer, I used this design from the Silver & Gold Specialty Paper, first cutting to a 4” x 6” piece and then cutting ¾” off the 6” side, which will give you a 4” x 5 ¼” base layer and a ¾” x 4” strip for the inside. The 2” x 6” piece was set aside for another time. I used Blending Brushes to color with Balmy Blue, Tahitian Tide, and Pacific Point inks:
For the rest of the card front, you will need:
1. Use the fourth from the largest Deckled Rectangles Die to die-cut from a Gold Foil Sheet.
2. Use the fourth from the smallest Deckled Rectangles Die to die-cut from Basic White cardstock. I first made the water by masking off the top (or what will be the sky), used a Blending Brush with Tahitian Tide ink to color in, and used another Blending Brush with Pacific Point ink to lightly tap the ink, giving the water a little bit of depth. I moved the masking paper to cover the water and colored the sky with Daffodil Delight, Mango Melody, Sweet Sorbet, and Pacific Point inks. Remove the masking paper and stamp the sun stamp in Daffodil Delight ink directly in the middle of the sky and water, used a Blending Brush to soften the stamped image on the water and then lightly color between the sky and water with Daffodil Delight ink. Place the masking paper back over the water and stamp the sun stamp again two times, each time slightly offset from the original stamped sun, in Daffodil Delight ink.
3. From Basic Black cardstock, use the beach grass and three palm trees die to die-cut out.
To assemble the card front, adhere the two deckled die-cuts together, use dimensionals to adhere the layered pieces to the base layer paper, use liquid glue along the bottom of the beach grass die-cut to adhere lined up along the bottom of the sunset, and use liquid glue to adhere the three palm trees die-cut, tucking the bottom of the palm trees behind the beach grass. This completed piece is adhered to a Sahara Sand cardstock card base, cut at 4 ¼” x 11” and scored at 5 ½”:
For the inside, cut a piece of Basic White cardstock at 4” x 5 ½”, stamp the sentiment in Pacific Point ink, stamp the clouds in Balmy Blue ink (stamping off once first), stamp the sun in Daffodil Delight ink, and adhere the ¾” x 4” strip of specialty paper that is colored with a sponge dauber in Pacific Point ink along the bottom:
For the coordinating Basic White Medium Envelope, stamp the grass and three palm trees stamp in the corner with Memento ink:
Such and easy card to make with a little bit of die-cutting and color blending! The Silver & Gold 6” x 6” Specialty Paper is great just how it is or add a little color!
