Hello and welcome to today’s blog post, which is a quick and easy card featuring the Let’s Set Sail Bundle and the Stripes and Splatters 3D Embossing Folders! The stripes folder from this two-folder combo has always looked like water to me and while I have used this folder with the Let’s Set Sail Bundle before, I thought I would try something a little different! To tie into the look of water, I used a die-cut piece of Fluid 100 Watercolor Paper, spritzer with water, ink, and the brush tipped Water Painter! Did you know that July is World Watercolor Month? I did not! I will admit I don’t watercolor very often, but there’s no time like the present to practice up with a variety of ways to add watercolor to your cards!
The base layer for the card front is Sahara Sand cardstock, cut at 4” x 5 ¼”, and embossed with the stripes folder from the Stripes & Splatters 3D EF. Since this embossing folder is smaller than the cardstock, I first spritzed the cardstock with water, lined up the cardstock so that it was evenly from the edge and then ran the folder thru the cut & emboss machine. After, I took the cardstock out of the folder, turned it, and lined up the part that was not embossed with the edge of the folder and the part that was embossed. This is then run thru the cut & emboss machine sideways. This is not the right way for the folder to go thru, but it’s the only way it would fit:
For the rest of the card front, you will need:
1. Use the second from the largest Layering Circle Die to die-cut from watercolor paper, spritz the paper with water, and use the brush tipped Water Painter with Tahitian Tide ink (squeeze the lid to the stamp pad) to watercolor the paper to your liking. I kept going over the paper, even “squiggling” the water painter to look like waves. I then embossed the watercolor paper with the stripe folder.
2. Cut a 4” piece of the White Frayed Ribbon, using snips to flag one end.
3. On Basic White cardstock, stamp the mast & hull in Sahara Sand ink, the sails in Coastal Cabana ink, and use the Sailboat Builder Punch to punch out. (I created a template by punching out of a piece of cardstock and use that with my Stamparatus, making it easier to stamp and then punch out).
4. You will need two 3mm and one 5mm Tahitian Tide Matte Decorative Dots, not pictured. For this card, I used one from the lightest color, one from the middle color, and the 5mm is the darkest color.
To assemble the card front, I used tear & tape to adhere the ribbon as shown, dimensionals to adhere the die-cut circle, liquid glue to adhere the mast & hull to the die-cut circle, mini dimensionals to adhere the sails, and place the matte decorative dots as shown. This completed piece is adhered to a Sahara Sand cardstock card base, cut at 5 ½” x 8 ½” and scored at 4 ¼”:
For the inside, cut a piece of Basic White cardstock at 4” x 5 ¼”, stamp the sentiment and shadow in Tahitian Tide ink, the mast & hull in Sahara Sand ink, and the sails in Coastal Cabana ink:
For the coordinating Basic White Medium Envelope, I used the long stamp to partially stamp on the envelope in Tahitian Tide ink, the mast & hull in Sahara Sand ink, and the sails in Coastal Cabana ink:
So simple, so easy, and perfect for any occasion! You can easily change the color of the die-cut circle and make it a sunrise/sunset and punch the sailboat out of Basic Black cardstock.
