Hello and welcome to today’s blog post, which is a sweet and easy card featuring the New Horizons Suite! Let’s not forget that there are several weeks left for the January – June 2022 Mini Catalog, so why not have a little bit more creative fun? When you have such beautiful designer series paper like the New Horizons 6” x 6” DSP, it is so easy to add a few products to create a sweet card for any occasion! For this card, there is some stamping directly on the designer series paper, die cuts, and embellishments! Speaking of embellishments, I remembered to grab the Cotton Ribbon Combo Pack because I always forget to use up my ribbon!
The base layer for the card front is this design from the New Horizons DSP, which I cut a ¾” strip off the top and 2” off the right side of the DSP. This will give you a 4” x 5 ¼” base layer, a ¾” x 6” strip for the inside of the card, and a 2” x 5 ¼” piece for the envelope flap. I then used the tree stamp in Evening Evergreen ink and the flock of birds stamp in Basic Gray ink:
For the rest of the card front, you will need:
1. Use the houses outline die to die-cut from a piece of Evening Evergreen Shimmer Vellum (R), place some adhesive sheet on the back of the vellum before die-cutting. Note-This vellum is now retired and if you do not have it, you can use Evening Evergreen cardstock instead.
2. Cut a ½” x 4” piece of Basic White cardstock and stamp the sentiment in Basic Gray ink. I then trimmed the strip down to 3”, which allowed me to keep the sentiment centered by trimming the cardstock off each end. I used the squared side of the Lovely Labels Pick a Punch on each end.
3. Cut a ¾” x 3 ¼” piece of Evening Evergreen cardstock and use the squared side of the Lovely Labels Pick a Punch on each end. The above sentiment piece will be layered on this.
4. I used the beach fence die with the smaller end on the right to die-cut from Basic White cardstock and then use a sponge dauber with Crumb Cake ink to “distress” the beach fence.
5. Use enough of the Misty Moonlight Cotton Ribbon to tie into a double bow. Note-you can substitute the double bow for a single bow if that is easier.
6. You will need one of each color of the Pebble Enamel Shapes, not pictured.
To assemble the card front, remove the adhesive backing from the die-cut houses and use liquid glue to adhere the die-cut beach fence to the DSP base layer as shown, use a glue dot to adhere the cotton ribbon double bow to the DSP base layer, dimensionals to adhere the layered sentiment over the cotton ribbon double bow, and place the Pebble Enamel Shapes under the beach fence as shown. This completed piece is adhered to an Evening Evergreen cardstock card base, cut at 5 ½” x 8 ½” and scored at 4 ¼”:
For the inside, cut a piece of Basic White cardstock at 4” x 5 ¼”, stamp the sentiment in Evening Evergreen ink, and adhere the ¾” strip of DSP (opposite side design) along the bottom, trimming off the excess:
For the coordinating Basic White Medium Envelope, I stamped the trees in Evening Evergreen and the flock of birds in Basic Gray inks on the front and adhered the 2” x 5 ¼” piece of DSP (opposite side design) to the flap. Note-If you have a die for this, you can use that or you can adhere to the flap and trim off the excess that sticks off the edge:
Such a sweet and easy card to make! What I love about the New Horizons DSP is that you can keep your card simple and just stamp images, you can use the die-cuts images, or you can stamp and use die-cut images! Since this card is pretty easy to make, you can use up all four sheets of this design and have four of these wonderful cards and envelopes ready to use!
