Hello and welcome to today’s blog post, which wraps up my week of Dragonfly Garden Bundle and Dandy Garden 6” x 6” DSP! Let’s face it, sometimes a DSP design can be a little overwhelming when it’s a little “busy”. I get it, I’m right there with you! So, I thought of a simple way to use this beautiful Dandy Garden DSP with a design that had me thinking “what do I do with this?”. Sure, I could slap a sentiment and some embellishments on it, but I wanted a better (and I use that term loosely) way and that’s where Vellum cardstock comes in! This is an easy way to kind of “mute” the DSP without hiding it!
For today’s card, I used this design from the Dandy Garden DSP, cutting into three pieces measuring ¾” x 6”, 4” x 5 ¼”, and 2” x 5 ¼”:
For the rest of the card front, you will need:
1. Use the second largest layering Stitched Rectangles Dies to die-cut from Vellum cardstock.
2. Use the fourth largest layering Stitched Rectangles Dies to die-cut from Basic White cardstock. I stamped the flower stamp from Dragonfly Garden in Memento ink three times (tallest in the middle) and used a Blender Pen with Bumblebee, Calypso Coral, Mossy Meadow, and Blackberry Bliss inks by squeezing the lid to the pad to pick up the ink with the Blender Pen, which allows you to control how much ink you use.
3. Cut a 2 7/8” x 4 ¼” piece of Blackberry Bliss cardstock, this will be layered under the above Basic White cardstock piece.
4. Use enough of the Mossy Meadow Braided Linen Trip to tie around the above layered cardstock pieces to tie into a knot.
5. Use three of the 4mm Rhinestone Basic Jewels, not pictured.
Adhere the stamped and colored Basic White cardstock die-cut piece to the Blackberry Bliss cardstock, tie the braided linen trim around into a knot, and then adhere this to the die-cut Vellum cardstock:
This layered piece is adhered to the middle of the DSP base layer and then adhered to a Blackberry Bliss cardstock card base, cut at 5 ½” x 8 ½”, and scored at 4 ¼”. I then placed the three 4mm Rhinestone Basic Jewels as shown:
For the inside, cut a piece of Basic White cardstock at 4” x 5 ¼”, adhere the ¾” strip of DSP along the side, trimming off the excess, and stamp the sentiment from Dragonfly Garden in Blackberry Bliss ink:
Don’t you love how this card turned out?? Do you see how I tied in the colors of the DSP with coloring the flowers? I feel like they all tie into together and the Vellum cardstock gives it a “buffer” between the stamped images and the DSP! Adding the three Rhinestone Basic Jewels gives it just that little extra “bling”! Just like with most cards, I made multiples to use up this DSP and when it came to coloring, I found it easier and quicker if I used one ink pad at a time to color all of the Basic White die-cuts, for example, using Mossy Meadow to color all the leaves and stems on each piece and then repeating the process for each ink pad!
