New Years Blog Hop-December 2020

Is laughter the best medicine? It can be! One of the best things about being a card maker, is that you can uniquely create cards to cater to just about any occasion! So, I thought I would do something a little bit different for New Year’s and bring a little laughter to one heck of a year! Let’s face it, most of us are over 2020 and are optimistically looking forward to a better 2021, so why not sum it up in a card??

The base layer is this design from the In Good Taste DSP, cut a 4” x 5 ¼”:

For the card front, you will need:

1. From the gold Brushed Metallic Cardstock, use the banner die from Fireside Trimmings to die-cut three pieces. I placed a piece of the adhesive sheet on the back before die-cutting.

2. From Basic Black cardstock, use the banner die from Fireside Trimmings to die-cut three pieces. I placed a piece of the adhesive sheet on the back before die-cutting. I handwrote “stink”, “stank”, and “stunk” using an extra fine point metallic gold Sharpie pen.

3. For the holly garland, I first inked the die in Soft Suede ink before die-cutting out of Sahara Sand cardstock and then went over it with a Light Just Jade Stampin’ Blends. I used a piece of adhesive sheet on the back before die-cutting.

4. On Sahara Sand cardstock, stamp the three-tree stamp in Memento ink. The base is colored in with Light Real Red Stampin’ Blends, the trunks are in Light Soft Suede Stampin’ Blends, and for the trees, I used a little bit of Light Just Jade in the middle and blended all over with a Light Crumb Cake Stampin’ Blends. I used my snips to fussy cut the star and one of the end trees off.

5. The three pieces of fire are die cut out of Very Vanilla cardstock and colored in with Light Real Red, Light Daffodil Delight, and Light So Saffron Stampin’ Blends.

6. The fireplace grate is die-cut out of Basic Black cardstock.

7. The firewood stamp is in Soft Suede ink on Sahara Sand cardstock and die-cut out with the coordinating die.

8. Using the number dies from the Playful Alphabet Dies, die-cut 2020 out of gold Brushed Metallic cardstock. I placed a piece of adhesive sheet on the back before die-cutting.

9. The fireplace is stamped in Memento ink on Sahara Sand cardstock and colored in with Light Crumb Cake Stampin’ Blends, using Light Soft Suede Stampin’ Blends to give the fireplace some depth along the top and bottom and on the two side panels. The inside of the fireplace is colored in with a Light Smoky Slate Stampin’ Blends and a Stampin’ Sponge with Basic Gray ink to lightly sponge inside and a little bit around the outside.

10. On a piece of Silver Foil Sheet, color a small area in Dark Real Red and Dark Shaded Spruce Stampin’ Blends and then use your snips to cut small little pieces (think shattered glass/ornament).

11. Not Pictured: six of the 6mm Gilded Gems and three of the 5mm Rhinestone Basic Jewels, two are colored in Dark Shaded Spruce and one in Dark Real Red Stampin’ Blends.

To layer the banners, remove the adhesive backing from the Basic Black die-cut piece and adhere it to the gold Brushed Metallic cardstock, in a staggered pattern, trimming the ends so they are even:

I first adhered the fireplace to the DSP base layer, adhered the holly garland so it looks like it is “falling off” the fireplace, removed the adhesive backing from the banners and adhere to the DSP base layer as shown, use one 6mm Gilded Gem on each end of each banner, and adhere the pieces of the three-tree stand as shown:

Place the three colored Rhinestone Jewels to the holly garland, place a few small dots of the Fine Tip Glue beside the fireplace, and use the putty end of your Take Your Pick Tool to pick up and place the colored and cut foil pieces. You will adhere the fire grate and wood in the fireplace, adhere the numbers around it, and use glue dots to adhere the fire pieces on top:

This completed piece is adhered to a Basic Black cardstock card base, cut at 4 ¼” x 11”, and scored at 5 ½”:

For the inside, cut a piece of Very Vanilla cardstock at 4” x 5 ¼”, from So Much Happy, heat emboss Happy in Gold Emboss Powder, the 2021 is die-cut out of Basic Black cardstock with Wink of Stella brushed over them, the star from So Much Happy is stamped in Daffodil Delight ink, and the balloon and string are stamped in Memento ink, with the stars colored in with Light So Saffron Stampin’ Blends:

Does this card sum up 2020 or what?? This card was inspired by The Grinch and those little dumpster ornaments with 2020 burning that I’ve seen going around social media! Lol If you are still in need of a couple more Christmas cards, you could use the sentiment “Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year” from Itty Bitty Christmas!
