Hello and welcome to today’s card, which is what I call the “DIY Turkey Card”! I set out this year to figure out how to make a turkey out of current products that you may just have on hand, which was pretty easy! If you have ever looked up on how to make one, you will see that a lot of the instructions involve retired products, but I couldn’t find one a little bit more current (not to say there isn’t one out there). After looking thru my punches and dies, I was able to find what I needed to make this super cute turkey!
To make the turkey:
1. Use the Daisy Punch to only punch out half of the daisy out of Pear Pizzazz, Pretty Peacock, Cajun Craze, and Merry Merlot cardstock.
2. Use the small circle die from Seasonal Layers to cut out two pieces in Whisper White and one piece in Basic Black cardstock. Cut the Basic Black in half, adhere to the Whisper White (like eyelids), and then use your Black Stampin’ Write Marker to make the eyes.
3. Use the Detailed Trio Punch with the “flower” corner and Cajun Craze cardstock. You will have three pieces from the “flower”, use two of those for the wattle.
4. Use Crushed Curry cardstock to create the legs and the beak, use scissors to cut a small triangle and the end of the branch die from Seasonal Layers for the legs.
5. Use Early Espresso cardstock for the head, body, and wings, the head and wings are the smallest scalloped circle from the Layering Circle Dies (cut one in half for the wings) and the body is the third smallest scalloped circle die:
To assemble the turkey:
1. Use liquid glue to adhere the daisy petals together to create the tail feathers and use the Fine Tip Glue Pen to adhere the eyes, beak, and wattle to the head.
2. Adhere the legs to the back of the body and then adhere that to the tail feathers.
3. Adhere the wings to the body and then adhere the head on top of the wings:
The base layer is this design from the Come to Gather DSP, cut at 4” x 5 ¼”. I made another cut at 2 ½” and flipped the back side of the cardstock design over:
For the card front you will need:
1. The turkey, of course!
2. A 4” strip of Burlap Ribbon.
3. On a Whisper White cardstock piece, use the letters from Make a Difference to stamp “Gobbles!” in Merry Merlot ink. This is then cut out with the third smallest square from Layering Squares Dies. Use the fourth smallest square to cut out a piece from Merry Merlot cardstock to layer under the sentiment.
4. The “post” for the sign is just cut with scissors out of Merry Merlot cardstock:
The card base is Merry Merlot cardstock, cut at 4 ¼” x 11”, and scored at 5 ½”. The DSP is adhered to the card base and then the burlap ribbon is adhered across the middle where the DSP is cut:
The square layers are adhered together and the “post” is adhered to the back. The turkey and the sign are both adhered with dimensionals:
For the inside sentiment, cut a piece of Whisper White cardstock at 4” x 5 ¼”, stamp the sentiment in Merry Merlot ink, stamp the pumpkins in Early Espresso ink, the stem is colored in with Dark Soft Suede Stampin’ Blends, the pumpkin is colored in with Light and Dark Pumpkin Pie Stampin Blends, I used the Color Lifter to lighten the middle of the rind:
Isn’t this turkey so stinkin’ cute?? This would also be a fun way to make table decoration or place settings for your dinner or party!
