Hello and welcome to today’s card, which features the new Fluid 100 Watercolor Paper! You may have noticed that among some of the product changes in the 2019-2020 Annual Catalog, there is new watercolor paper. While I do still have some of the previous watercolor paper, I purchased a pack of the new paper so I can see for myself and share it with you. For starters, the new paper is 5” x 7” and comes with 10 sheets and the old paper is 6” x 9” and comes with 5 sheets, so slightly smaller, but more paper. Texture and color-the old paper has a distinct texture, whereas the new is very subtle and a bit smoother, but the color is pretty much the same. The new paper doesn’t feel as “stiff” as the old paper, but definitely is easy to color with using an Aqua Painter and Stampin’ Blends, which I used for today’s card.
The one difference with the new paper, is that in order to get a “crisp and clean” stamped image, I had to use my Stampin’ Pierce Mat under the paper. I do have a large mat under my grid paper when I stamp so I don’t always have to use my pierce mat for photopolymer stamps, but using the pierce mat definitely made a difference!
The base layer is the Fluid 100 Watercolor Paper, cut at 4” x 5 ¼”. I used the large flower from Floral Essence in Smoky Slate and cut two additional images to create a mask so that the stamped flowers did not overlap onto each other:
I then used the small leaf stamp to fill in some of the space around the flowers:
I found it easiest to use a drop of refill ink for coloring, you can either use a clear block or place a drop of ink in the lid of the stamp pad (of the same color of course!)
1. Use the medium tip brush to color in the lines of the petals with Flirty Flamingo and Blackberry Bliss inks and to color in the centers with Daffodil Delight ink,
2. Use the large tip brush to fill in the flowers with Flirty Flamingo lines with Petal Pink ink and fill in the flowers with Blackberry Bliss lines with Highland Heather ink.
3. Use the medium tip brush to color in the leaves with Granny Apple Green ink.
4. Color the background around the flowers and leaves in with Light Soft Sea Foam ink.
5. Use a Blender Pen with Craft White ink around the outline of the flowers. Tip-I have a pen that one side is designated just for craft ink.
I wanted to see if I could give the paper a little more texture, so I embossed it with the Subtle EF, but after the ink completely dried:
For the rest of the card front you will need:
1. Enough Silver Metal Thread to wrap around your hand five times, this will go behind the sentiment.
2. Stamp the sentiment in Smoky Slate ink on Whisper White cardstock, cut out with the Story Label Punch, and then punch out another piece in Silver Foil, cut in half, to layer behind the sentiment.
Adhere the Silver Foil layer behind the sentiment, place some additional adhesive on the back, and then wrap and twist the thread behind the sentiment:
The sentiment piece is adhered to the base layer with dimensionals and then this completed piece is adhered to a Smoky Slate cardstock card base cut at 4 ¼”x 11”, and scored at 5 ½”:
The inside sentiment is stamped on Whisper White cardstock, cut at 4” x 5 ¼”, in Smoky Slate ink. The flowers are stamped in the corner with Smoky Slate ink and I used one of the masks to layer the flowers. I colored these in with Dark Daffodil Delight, Dark Petal Pink, Dark Flirty Flamingo, Dark Blackberry Bliss, and Light Highland Heather Stampin’ Blends, to tie into the colors on the card front:
