Hello and welcome to today’s card, which is a bright and cheerful card made from the Perennial Essence Suite! Sometimes a card starts with just a piece of designer series paper and what better DSP than the Perennial Essence DSP? When I first received this DSP, I cut some of it up so I would have 4” x 5 ¼” pieces ready to go. Even though this DSP looks more like it was painted on, I thought I would try to incorporate making a watercolor flower. Remember last fall SU! introduced Watercolor Pencils Assortment 2? They were a “special purchase” and I thought for sure they would wind up in a catalog, but then they just disappeared….Well, they are back in the 2019-2020 Annual Catalog and I used a couple of these to color in the vellum flower on the card front!
I used Vellum cardstock to heat emboss the flower from Floral Essence in gold, colored the center of the flower with Crushed Curry and the outer petals with Flirty Flamingo Watercolor Pencil, using my Blender Pen to fill in the coloring. (I put a piece of Whisper White cardstock behind the flower so you could see it a little better):
For the card front, I fussy cut the flower out of the vellum, used this design from the DSP cut at 4” x 5 ¼”, used the fourth largest layering Stitched Rectangle die to cut out of the So Saffron Vellum, and stamped the sentiment in Flirty Flamingo ink, cutting out with the second largest rectangle Stitched Rectangle die (the sentiment should be in the bottom right side):
There’s a couple ways to adhere the vellum to the DSP, you can use liquid glue and a sponge to spread on the backside or you can hide snail behind the sentiment piece and use glue dots in the corners (I have embellishments that I’m using that will hide these) or if you have the adhesive sheets left over from the previous catalog, you can cut a piece and use that. I adhered the vellum to the DSP, aligning to the left bottom corner, and then adhered the sentiment across, close to the bottom of the vellum:
The base layer is adhered to a So Saffron card base, cut at 5 ½” x 8 ½”, and scored at 4 ¼”. I used liquid glue to adhere the vellum flower to the sentiment piece and placed a Perennial Essence Flower Center in the center. In three of the corners of the vellum piece, I used the gold Designer Elements:
The inside is Whisper White cardstock, cut at 4” x 5 ¼”, the sentiment is in Flirty Flamingo ink, and the flowers are in So Saffron ink:
Isn’t this a fun card?? As I was putting the card together, the vellum flower started to curl (from the blender pen), so I just used my finger to flatten it out a bit. I was so happy that SU! brought the second assortment of watercolor pencils back! Now you have more core colors to choose from, including some from the color revamp!
