Hello and welcome to today’s card, which is a Mini Miura Fold Card that was made using the Animal Expedition Suite! This is a fun card that I CASE’d from Rachel Tessman and you can see her YouTube video here. I was looking for a “wow card” to make for my daughter-in-law’s birthday when I came across Rachel’s video. I first made her card, which I will share pictures at the end of this post, and since you can make two cards out of one 12” x 12” sheet of cardstock, I thought I would share with you a fun baby card made with the Animal Expedition Suite. **If at any point you are not sure about this card, please see Rachel’s video! It’s very easy to follow along**
I first started with a 12” x 12” piece of Crumb Cake cardstock and trimmed two ½” x 12 pieces for the belly band:
Then turn the cardstock to the 12” side (you will have one side that is now 11”) and then score at 4” from each end. After scoring, you can cut the cardstock in half on the 11” side, this will give you two card bases at 5 ½” x 12” and two belly bands at ½” x 12”:
You will then turn the card vertically (the 5 ½” is at the top and bottom) and you will need a ruler to 1) measure 2” in from the right on the top score line to make a mark with a pencil and then make a small mark at the end of the score line (left side) and 2) measure 2” in from the left on the bottom score line to make a mark with a pencil and then make a small mark at the end of the score line:
Using either your Stampin’ Trimmer or your ruler, Stampin’ Pierce Mat, and a stylus, start at the 2” mark and score to the small mark at the end of the other score line. I used my Stampin’ Trimmer and this is what it looks like:
After scoring each side, this is what it will look like and make sure to erase your pencil marks:
For the cardstock and DSP layers, this is where I changed it up a bit, I cut three pieces of Call Me Clover cardstock at 3 ¾” x 5 1/8”:
For the left panel, use your ruler and measure 1 7/8” from the top on the right side and mark with a pencil:
For the right panel, use your ruler and measure 1 7/8” from the bottom on the left side and mark with a pencil:
For the middle panel, use your ruler and measure 1 7/8” from the top on the left side and the bottom of the right side and mark with a pencil:
You will line up the cardstock with the pencil mark and the corner in the cutting track of your trimmer. This is what the final cut pieces will look like:
You will need to give those triangle pieces an extra trim, Rachel cut hers at the ¼” line, but I didn’t want to cut that much, so I lined the long side up with the first line after the cutting track. The very first line to the right of the track is the ¼” line:
For the DSP layer, I used these designs from Animal Expedition (make sure that your design is vertical) and cut them each at 3 ½” x 4 7/8”:
Instead of measuring the DSP at the 1 7/8” mark, I measured at 1 5/8” and then cut them the same way as the cardstock. **Tip-if your triangle pieces don’t quite line up, cut them slightly again at the line before the ¼” mark on your trimmer:
Now it’s time to bend those score lines! For the top, you will want the fold to go “away” from you and for the bottom, you will want the fold to go “towards” you. I used my fingers to manipulate the score lines to fold and then used my bone folder to get those crisp folds. This is what the card base will look like completely folded:
You can now adhere the cardstock and DSP layered pieces to the card base, I used liquid glue so I have a little wiggle room to adjust placement:
The kangaroo, giraffe, rhino, and frog on a branch are all stamped in Memento Ink on Thick Whisper White cardstock. The frog on a branch is colored in with Light Call Me Clover, Light Crumb Cake, and Light Granny Apple Green Stampin’ Blends. The giraffe is colored in with Dark Soft Suede and Dark Daffodil Delight Stampin’ Blends. The rhino is colored in with Light and Dark Smoky Slate and Ivory Stampin’ Blends, I used the Color Lifter on the horn to make it slightly lighter and the bird is colored in with Light and Dark Lovely Lipstick and Light Pineapple Punch Stampin’
Blends. The kangaroo and koala bear are colored in with Ivory, Bronze, and Light Crumb Cake Stampin’ Blends. These are then cut out with the coordinating framelit and I used the branch framelit to cut out five pieces out of Call Me Clover cardstock:
The rhino is adhered to a piece of the Animal Expedition DSP punched out with the Starburst Punch with dimensionals, three of the leaves are adhered to the back of the punched DSP, and then this piece is adhered to the card. The frog on a branch is adhered to the bottom fold with mini dimensionals:
The other two leaves are adhered to the back of the giraffe and then adhered to the top fold with a dimensional. The sentiment is stamped in Crumb Cake ink on a 5/8” x 1 5/8” piece of Whisper White cardstock and then adhered to Call Me Clover cardstock cut out with the Stitched Labels Framelits, adhered with dimensionals:
To complete the card, I folded the ½” x 12” belly band around the card and punched the end with the Banner Triple Punch. After deciding on the belly band placement, I used three dimensionals above the belly band and then two more dimensionals at the top of the kangaroo layered piece:
This will allow for your belly band to stay in place, but also have a cute front of the card. I used the largest scalloped and the third largest Layering Ovals on Call Me Clover cardstock and Animal Expedition DSP:
If you would like to add your own personal sentiment, cut a piece of 3 ¾” x 3 ¾” Whisper White cardstock to adhere to the back:
Now here is the birthday card I made for my daughter-in-law, using All My Love DSP, Butterfly Beauty Thinlits Dies, Lovely Lipstick Foil Sheet and made a custom coordinating envelope with the All My Love DSP. The card was a big hit (her birthday was yesterday and she already received the card) and I just love finding fun and over-the-top cards to make for family!
