Hello and welcome to today’s card, which is a sympathy card I created with Glossy White Cardstock. This card did not start out as a sympathy card, rather I wanted to create a card using the Dandelion Wishes stamp set and Glossy White Cardstock. As I was making this card and discussing with my husband how I made the image on the glossy cardstock, he mentioned he needed a sympathy card and I thought this would be perfect with the Kindness & Compassion stamp set!
When Stampin’ Up! brought back Glossy White cardstock, I was excited because I originally bought it when it was previously sold, did one project, and then it just sat…and sat…and sat. The cardstock can be very intimidating, for me at least, so I tried to think of some way to create a card with it. Earlier this year I did a card using the “polished stone technique”, so I thought I would try coloring using a cotton ball and Stampin’ Up! Ink Refills and it was very easy! I will walk you through each step below!
I first started with a 3 ¾” x 5” piece of Glossy White cardstock:
I used this dandelion image from the Dandelion Wishes stamp set, which I stamped in StazOn Jet Black ink:
I chose 3 colors that I wanted to color the background in, going from light to dark, and went with So Saffron, Mango Melody, and Pumpkin Pie ink refills:
I first started with So Saffron ink, which I put a couple drops on a cotton ball, and then swirled around the dandelion image:
I then used Mango Melody ink on a different cotton ball and swirled that around the So Saffron ink:
Finally, I used Pumpkin Pie ink on a different cotton ball, which I swirled around the rest of the paper. TIP-if you put too much ink on the cotton ball, flip the cotton ball over and use a clean side, this will take up any of the extra ink. If you don’t add enough ink, quickly squeeze another drop or two and quickly blend in:
For the front of the card sentiment, I used one of the sentiments from Kindness & Compassion on a 5/8” piece of Whisper White cardstock, which I used my Stampin’ Write Marker in Basic Black to ink the bottom of the sentiment, flagged the end with the Banner Triple Punch, and cut a 5” piece of the Burlap Ribbon:
To adhere the sentiment to the ribbon and then the ribbon to the cardstock, I used some Tear & Tape Adhesive on the back:
The card base is a 5 ½” x 8 ½” piece of Daffodil Delight cardstock, scored at 4 ¼”, and the base layer is Basic Black cardstock, cut at 4” x 5 ¼”. The base layer is adhered to the card base and then the glossy cardstock is adhered slightly askew on top:
The burlap ribbon is adhered across the bottom of the glossy cardstock and the sentiment is adhered on top:
The inside sentiment is on a 4” x 5 ¼” piece of Whisper White cardstock, the sentiment is inked using the Stampin’ Write Marker in Basic Black and the dandelion seed stamp is inked in Memento Ink, stamping off first:
I’m really going to have to look up some more ideas using Glossy White Cardstock, this was pretty easy to create! The ink from the cotton ball dried quickly, but I did have to use my heat tool to help dry the dandelion image. I know a lot of us create cards as we need them, but every now and again, get out paper, a stamp set, or even some embellishments and let your creativity take over and experiment!
