Hello and welcome to today’s card, which was inspired by a local paint bar! I follow a few places here in Hampton Roads on Facebook and have gone to a few paint nights myself, lots of fun and no experience necessary, so when I saw one particular post, I thought of Magical Mermaid! Below is the picture that inspired me and then how I created my own version:
I first started with a piece of Watercolor Paper, cut at 3 ½” x 4 ¾”:
To start creating the water, I used the large brush tip Aqua Painter and Night of Navy ink:
Next, I added Blueberry Bushel, Balmy Blue, and Fresh Fig inks with the Aqua Painter:
Then went back over with some brush strokes of Night of Navy ink:
For some added effect, I used some Whisper White Craft ink with the Aqua Painter and then one of the stamps from Artisan Textures:
The small silhouette mermaid from Magical Mermaid is stamped in Memento ink:
The card base is Fresh Fig cardstock, cut at 5 ½” x 8 ½”, and scored at 4 ¼”:
On a scrap piece of Watercolor Paper, I used the Aqua Painter and colored two spots with Crumb Cake ink and one spot with Fresh Fig ink. Then I used the coral and sand dollar framelits from the Under the Sea Framelits Dies to cut out the Watercolor Paper:
The base layer is from the Tranquil Textures DSP, cut at 4” x 5 ¼” and adhered to the card base:
Adhere a piece of the 5/8” Burlap Ribbon to the back of the Watercolor Paper with the ends sticking out and then fray the ends with your fingernails, then adhere to the base layer with dimensionals:
I added some Wink of Stella to the sand dollars, coral, and mermaid, then adhered the starfish (which is from the sand dollar framelit) in each corner with glue dots:
For the inside, the sentiment is from the Magical Mermaid stamp set in Fresh Fig ink, the bubbles are from the Artisan Textures stamp set in Balmy Blue ink. From the same DSP used on the front, I used a ¾” x 4” piece to adhere on the side, and then adhere the sand dollars and coral:
So, what do you think?? I really like how my version turned out and this was a fun way to get creative from some not so typical inspiration!! For my next card, I’m going to try and create a flower with some framelits that you would never think to use, so stay tuned!!
