Beyond card making

Did you know that you can expand your creativity beyond card making and scrapbooking? Have you ever thought about creating a treasured memory from a simple photo? This is what today’s project is about!

This last September we spent a week in the Outer Banks of North Carolina with family and friends and what a wonderful time we all had! We surprised our very dear friends with their daughter, son-in-law, and grandbabies coming up from Florida and we surprised my in-laws (who live in Washington State) with our youngest son flying in from Hawaii. My MIL absolutely loves lighthouses, so one day my husband drove my in-laws and son around to visit the lighthouses. This picture was taken on Hatteras Island in front of the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse of the three of them and we thought this picture would be great to use for my MIL for her birthday.

The frame, shells, and netting all came from a local craft store, but I really wanted to add something extra to this and knew that the High Tide stamp set would be perfect! The bottom scenery is on a piece of Whisper White cardstock, cut at 2” x 4”. Using Sponge Daubers, I sponged Pool Party ink on the top half for the water and sponged Sahara Sand ink on the bottom half for the sand, the waves are stamped in Dapper Denim ink, the grass is stamped in Pear Pizzazz ink, the birds are stamped in Memento ink, and I used the “speckled” stamp from the Waterfront set in Sahara Sand ink. The sentiment is stamped in Pool Party ink and then used a Sponge Dauber with Dapper Denim ink around the edges of the sentiment to give a slight ombre’ effect, then I used the 6th largest Scalloped Square framelit to cut the sentiment. Everything is adhered with a hot glue gun, lots and lots of hot glue! 😊

I am an Independent Stampin' Up! Demonstrator located in Norfolk, Virginia and was first introduced to Stampin' Up! in 2004 when I attended my very first card class with my Mother-in-Law and I was immediately hooked! I first started out by making simple holiday cards and over the years as my stash has grown, so have my card and craft making skills. It has always warmed my heart when family and friends love my cards, but they actually keep them! In 2016 I decided to become a Stampin' Up! Demonstrator and figured I could just do it for a hobby, but now I am going to branch out for all to world to see. So grab your favorite beverage, sit in your favorite chair, and join me as I share my cards and crafts with you! Enjoy!
